Okay, trying to get some configs working for MAME so I can actually play these on my cab. CFG magician was too broad, so I am going to edit them one by one.... should be done by at least year 3022. But that's beside the point...

When I set up a cfg exactly how I want it for a game, it works fine when I launch it in MAME32ui from that big sloppy menu; but when I exit out of that and use GameEx, it doesn't use the custom cfg fro the game from the mame\cfg directory. In the advanced config screen there doesn't seem to be a path even to the MAME cfgs. I thought it could somehow be connected to CPWizard, but I turned off that option in GameEx config and tried again but still not using the game's custom cfg. What am I missing here? Anybody? I know it has to be simple and I am overlooking something...

What are the command line parameters being sent to Mame within GameEx?

What's in your Mame.Ini file?

c:\mame\cfg which should be fine...

in gamex on the advanced command line its -nowindow -joy -skip_gameinfo -autosave

Just curious....Why do you need to edit all of your configs by hand? I have the defaults set in MAME and only have to edit a game here and there. The only exception is 5 and 6 button games due to decisions I made early on. There are many other ways around it, but that's another story. Anyway, I don't think there should be that much manual setting required.

Well at least I know the Neo Geo ones are the same all the way around.

No I am running into the ones with he spinner not working. I have tried mapping as a mouse but no luck. I don't know what tye of spinner they intalled, but when I do the config in a game, it doesn't pick anything up. The trackball picks up the axis and I would have thought the spinner would be similar, but MAME ignores it. Any ideas? Anyone else have problems getting a spinner recognized in the MAME cfgs on a cab?

P.S. Tom, if you see this I PMed you early yesterday about the FTP; I am not sure if you got it. Let me know if you did or didn't. Thanks

Is the spinner a Turbo Twist 2? If it is, it can be set (on the board itself) to be the x axis, y axis, or mouse wheel. What does it behave as in Windows? If they set it as the mouse wheel (horrible idea) then Mame might have trouble picking it up. If that is the case, I would strongly recommend opening up the control panel and changing it the x-axis. You won't receive the full benefit of the spinner in mouse wheel mode (the mouse wheel goes by steps, the speed of spinning it is not used) and it will be anywhere from difficult to impossible to configure it for many programs. In X axis mode it'll work as it should pretty much as is without configuring for most programs.

Well this is kind of what is throwing me; Windows doesn't seem to recognize it at all. I spin it and it does nothing, in MAME, in windows, and I don't know if it could be on the control panel because nothing in there or in device settings says anything about a spinner or anything identifiable... It is just black smooth metal, not cheaply made, but nothing really distinguishable about it...

EDIT: This is the product page on it at DA: http://store.dreamauthentics.com/dreamstor...Control%20Panel

That's definitely not a turbo twist 2. Doesn't look like Ultimarc's spinner either.

If it's doing nothing at all, I wonder if the cable perhaps jiggled out while shipping. I'd open up the control panel and look inside to see that the cable is plugged in. Might say on it what it actually is as well.

Still haven't figured out how to map the spinner, will try unplugging it and plugging in different USB tonight to see if it comes up recognized.

Back to the original issue; I am having to launch my games thorough MAME32ui, still unable to use GameEx because for some reason it isn't reading the cfgs in the MAME\cfg folder... any other ideas?

I sidetracked my own thread question with the spinner post (and in the post misspelled "now" as "no" so it sounded like my original problem and the spinner were related. But in the words of Peter David, "but I digress..."

Okay.... never mind about the cfg files reading wrong in GameEx; I figured it out... and I am not telling you what was wrong because it was sooooo stupid for me to have missed.

At work, me and some friends used to tell people that were missing something simple on the computer that it was an ID ten T error. They would go "ooooh.... I knew something was wrong with the computer.... so what is an ID ten T error?" I would tell them to take out a pen and sheet of paper to spell it out and they would see....

ID ten T.... spelled out...

I D 10 T......

I D 1 0 T

That's the kind of error I made here...

Now, if only the spinner were an ID10T error.... changed USB plugs, no wires loose, DA says it should be plug and play for Windows to recognize it... I am at a loss so far...
