cursor doesn't hide when running as shell?

Hi all --

I've been setting up GameEx inside my cabinet, and if I launch it from explorer, it has always doen a good job of hiding the cursor when possible. However, when I run GameEx as my shell (i'm on 98SE), it doesn't hide the cursor. It always shows up right in the middle of the screen. Does anyone know why this happens, or how I can fix it (short of using a black dot as my cursor)?
