Hi. I have a number of questions if anyone can spare the time to answer them

First of all I have a small issue with what I think must be my current MAME version. Im using MameUI32 version 0.130 with GE (downloaded a month ago), registered version, and in my cab I use X-Arcade dual joystick, operating system XP. My roms are 0.131. Everything has been running pretty smooth until yesterday. Suddenly some strange thing happened. When playing a MAME game, and pushing the first black button (the default shoot, jump etc. button, in X-Arcade assigned to left control button) a bar appears in the bottom of the screen for adjusting volume and when I move the stick left or right it changes the volume. I tried running a game straight through MAMEUI32 (without GE) and same thing. Just now I tried running a game with command prompt MAME and now it didnt happen. Everything else seems ok, either in MAME games or emulatet games as NES or SNES games. Has anyone ever seen this and knows what is happening???

Ok, then some questions:

Wich MAME emulator is best to run under GE?? A command prompt or GUI type?? And how does this compare to the X-Arcade??

Other emulators. Now Im using JNes, Fusion and ZSnes and is quite happy with them. Am I missing something though?? Any recomendations??

Atari 2600, Sinclair Zpectrum, Colecovision, Intellivision. Wich emulator is best under GE??

Can GE run any fruit machine emulators and if so which emulator(s)??

I have folder for box art with NES games and I have set the path. Nothing is showing though??

Thanks and hope someone can be bothered to help me...

First off, is your X-Arcade controller set to the default MAME settings? On the back there is a slide switch, make sure its all the way to the left (if your looking straight at the back of it, all the way left is the default settings).

For MAME, I personally use MAME32. There is more than one way to skin a pigeon though, its all a matter of personal taste I guess.

Look into MESS. Its emulates a lot of consoles. Its one of my favorites.

Can GE run any <insert system> emulators and if so which emulator(s)??

GameEx can run any emulator that can be launched from a command line. It can also (sometimes) be made to work with emulators that don't use command lines. If you can find an emu, you can run it!

Okay, I'll try to help with a couple of those. The first issue you describe is probably caused by and incorrect key binding for the 'on screen display' option. I use MameUI32 (0.126u4 to be specific) and the default in game command to adjust key bindings is the 'tab' button. 'on screen display' is under the Input(General)>User Interface Tree. It is the first option and is generally set to the ` key.

I prefer MameUI32 because the visual layout is easier for me to interpret when adding new roms.

I use both Fusion and ZSnes and love them. If your system is up to it you could try Project64

Check that the Nes art is in .png or jpeg format. If it is then double and triple check your paths. No matter how many times I've set up emulators I usually mangle one path of forget to set the folder properties correctly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I had actually solved the controls problem with the old and trusted method of just installing Mame32UI over the old install. Now everything is fine!! Your method will be tried the next time...:) I actually like Fusion and ZSnes, very easy to use with X-Arcade and stable. I have set up Project64 but my system is not just there, a bit on the slow and grumpy side for that...

I dont know about MESS??

But thanx...!!
