Hi... Small thing bothering me. I have in my roms folder X number of MAME roms. I have had GameEx scan for new roms but somehow the numbers dont match?? GE reports only around some 60% of the actual number in the rom folder?? Is this because of duplicates?? Any idea??

Filters probably. There are a couple things you can check.

1) clones - if you turn off clones, you will lose a bunch of roms (although that's not necessarily a bad thing)

2) verification - if you are using a different version of MAME and roms, some might not be compatible and be removed from the list

3) mahjong, mature, japan, etc - there are other filters that will remove games you probably don't want to play/display in your list

All filters can be tweaked or turned off. Please be aware that after changing a filter setting, you must update your list for any changes to take affect.

In the case of say, sega cd platform, you could have multiple image type file. IE: .bin/.cue, .iso, .mdf/.mds... so if you set up *.bin in your emu, you would get a partial list too. But I would rather say like bkenobi, its probably a filter.

Didnt noticed on first read you were talking about mame in particular :) so unless you have some mame roms unzipped, I would doubt this would be the problem, check the filters :) On gameex tutorials section there is a show all mame roms videos, its gonna show you which options to enable to get the full list.

Ya, These are two seprate issues. Emulators like segacd rely on rom filter like *.bin etc.. if you have multiple rom file types then you would do this *.bin;*.iso;*.nrg etc.......... these game lists are created dynamicly based on your filter.

for MAME gameex will use mames built in listxml to generate a list of support games for the version you have. Then Gameex (if configured to) will check the roms you have againsed the roms it supports. This way it will not populate your list with games you cannot run or are missing files for. Then filters are on by default to not show non working games. So while MAME may support 7000 games not all 7000 games work. You will only see the ones that do. Other filters include not showing bootlegs or clones, That can drasticly reduce your game list. Then you can opt to not show games from japan korea etc which will further reduce your game list. It is very common to end up with a game list of a little over 3000. At least you can rest assured taht of those games they should all work and be for your language etc...

Hi

Not related to the OP issue, but I have another issue related to ROM numbers.

If I go to the 'Emulated Games' and highlight the 'All Games' item, the number of games displayed at the bottom is stuck to 9999.

Is this some kind of reference to Final Fantasy or is it an actual bug ?

Then if I highlight Mame, no number is displayed at all, but if I select another emu, it's ok.

Mame was a official 64bits 0.132

Strangely, I can't reproduce the bug anymore.

I just updated to GameEx 10.14 and everything is fine now.

I think that Tom mentioned in previous posts that this was a problem with a particular version of GameEx. I had the same issue just updated as Tom recommended.

There was a change in the way MAME produced the game info in 0.131u1 or there abouts. As a result, GameEx wasn't playing nice when it updated. If you use MAME >0.131 then I think you need to update GameEx to above 10.12 or 10.13.
