celly Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Just found a Virtual Boy emulator, Red Dragon. I searched the forum here for a config or any kind of help as to getting the screen centered while in full screen. All attempts that I tried failed with either a screen too big or a screen too small way up in the top left corner. Anybody figure this one out?
Lawrence Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Unfortunately, that's just how Red Dragon is. I agree though. Looks lame with the game screen up at the top and all that black on the bottom.
celly Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 I agree, wicked lame. That Reality Boy emulator any good? I guess I'll try that one next.
Lawrence Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Red Dragon is as good as it gets for the PC. Apparrently there's a newer VB emulator for the Mac, but I've never tried it myself -- as I don't have a Mac.Red Dragon hasn't been updated in ages (I don't think any of the PC VB emus have) so I wouldn't expect to see any improvement with how the display is done. Too bad though, otherwise Red Dragon is pretty nice.
bkenobi Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I tried all of them a few months ago. As I recall, there was only one emulator out of the lot that played well and didn't have any real issues. I can't remember if it was Red Dragon or not, but I can upload my config if it would help. It's not hard to set one up with the right emulator as far as I can remember anyway (don't think I needed to use a wrapper anyway).

I tried both, Red Dragon and Reality Boy and I think Red Dragon plays better. On the other hand Reality Boy has sound.
bkenobi Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I just checked, and it looks like I'm using Reality Boy. I tried Red Dragon, Reality Boy, and Virtual-E. I don't think Virtual-E worked right. I think the problem with Red Dragon was either audio or controls, but I don't remember any more.I'm using Reality Boy without a wrapper of any kind. For the command line I have:Reality_Boy.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" -display 640x480 -palette redI do use xpadder to map my keys, but, if you have an IPAC or something, you can use either an AHK script or remap your IPAC itself or whatever to remap things. Anyway, it works great on my system! I don't think you really need the whole config, so I won't bother posting it unless it's really needed.
celly Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 Hey cool, thanks bkenobi. I'll fire up things and see if it works.
celly Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Works like a champ, thanks. I didn't use Xpadder though, just reconfigured my controller. However, did GameEx take some strange snaps for you as well? Its like it took negatives of the red screen LOL!
Lawrence Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 That happens with Create Snaps in Gameex. Unless the emulator is running in at least 640 x 480 with 32-bit the snaps it creates will have funky colouring. When I really want to make snaps I temporarily change the emulator's settings to 640 x 480 32bit colour.I have an awesome set of snaps for the virtual boy though -- I can zip them up and send them to you if you like.
celly Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Thatd be sweet! Thanks. I've used the snap program before and never had a problem. Maybe the settings were at 32bit.
bkenobi Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I have never created my own snaps actually. I found a set of snaps for VB and they look fine. I can't remember if I have video snaps or just static snaps, but either way I didn't make them. I have been using Emumovies stuff for pretty much everything and have been really happy with it.
Lawrence Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Here are all my Virtual Boy extras Celly. They're named in the Goodmerge format (since that's what I use on my cab -- nice and clean and only one image necessary for each title). There's even a groovy icon in there for PD roms.snaps.rarboxes.rarcarts.rartitles.rar
celly Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 Awsome, thanks again. Slap these bad boys in there and call it a day.
