How come GameEx will find the correct info for some emulators, but not others?

Is there a package of info files I can stick somewhere to get GameEx to show game information for my other emulators?

Currently only Genesis, SNES, NES and I think one other one are showing info correctly.

I want it to do this for GBA and N64 too, but i can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong here.

Sorry if this is a total n00b question.

K, found the section where the files are stored, GameEx/DATA/Emulators

There's all the MDB files in there, something just isn't triggering then, all the ROMs are labeled correctly too..hmm =/

Verify that your roms use one of the big 3 naming formats (NoIntro, GoodNames, TOSEC). If they don't match one of those systems, you will need to use a tool like RomCenter or clrMAMEpro to rename your sets. Also, if you have snaps, titles, boxes, etc for your systems, those need to match the rom names as well. If they don't, search this forum for a tool called FatMatch. It should help renaming stuff.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The databases are not all complete. There was a major effort at the end of last year to rebuild all of the databases, but it appears to have stalled about 3/4 of the way through. There were several people who were helping initially, but it eventually fell on one person to do ALL of the work (basically), so I think he may have gotten burned out. Hopefully someone will help knock the rest of them out at some point.

Database expert here!! Ok, Ok, maybe not but i did ask about this very same thing only last week.

It's like bkenobi says, and that not all the datatbases are complete or even really started.

Best way to learn how they work is ask questions and open a few up see whats in them. They are located at "C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\EMULATORS" by default.

I said 3/4 because there were a lot that had work on them, but weren't complete and the ones that were done were what most people seemed to care about (NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, etc.). In reality, there's a lot that needs work on, but many of those systems are more obscure IMO. Also, some of those systems had so many games and apps that I'm not sure they can ever be completed (C64 for example). But yeah, there is some stuff that will work for some stuff. :P

C64 has something like 20K entires? Man... Flash will be 'burned' after that one.... get it.. Flash.. burned.. ugh!

I tried doing my own for a little while, but it was tedious and generally annoying. But if you have to have it all, go to Moby Games, look up your game and add-in the details they provide. It's the best place for the most information. But, they don't have every game ever made... they have many, but not all.

The tool that HK put together grabs data from Moby Games (among other places) and fills it in the database automatically. The problem is that someone has to manually go through each game and verify that things are correct and then fill in any blanks that weren't scraped from anywhere else. The process is much easier than doing it by hand, but like you said there are over 20k entries!

Ok, Firstly, I am really sorry that the work on the databases has stopped for a bit. Have got involved in a few other projects and struggle to find time to do as much as I would like (Including finishing my theme from way back).

All I can say is that everything I start does and will get finished - When is the sticking point.

One of the bigger projects that myself and HK have been working on is coming to a close soon and then i will spend some time catching up on the DB's. I know that no-one has said "what the hell happened to the DB's", but I do honestly feel guilty that I have left it so long to do any updates and am glad that no-one has be giving me daggers for that :)

Sadly, there is only me! and as both BK and Temp have said, there is one HELL of a lot of data to do... Also IMBerzerk has noted that just getting the C64 in order is a major undertaking and not overly rewarding..

These things will get finished and there is a major addition that has also been mooted that may well improve the entire system.

The N64 database is complete, so, not sure what the problem was mentioned earlier.

Also, this post is just to confirm that I am still around and still keeping an eye on ya all!! LOL

I promise to head back to the DB's as soon as I can allocate the horrendous amount of time they require.. :)

Ps...

BK, moby is lucky to help you with much more that 20% of the matches and most of them lack descriptions... So, C64 is a nightmare...

The db's started way back in june 2008 and there were several people on the team then working on lots of different systems.... and no-one submitted anything.

I continued for 5 months doing them and there is a suprising amount of data in there, but FAR from complete. Perhaps the amount of work put everyone else off? Though, I am sure there must be someone who would love to help out :)

As I say, fret not, i did not burn out, nor am i abandoning them, the db's will continue as soon as time permits.

Hey, Flash is back! ;)

Yeah, I checked out your DS project recently and it looks really cool! I don't have one, so I guess I would be limited to using an emulator to fire it up though.

Btw, I hope none of my comments sounded negative about the DB project? I know they've basically become your project with help from HK in making the app to do the work. I simply don't know any of the systems that are left to work on and thus they really wouldn't hold my interest so I wouldn't likely do a quality job (primarily due to lack of knowledge, but possibly due to plain shoddy work as well :o ).

Oh, and since you mentioned it, where's my damn theme!? B)
