here are the settings, they work fine outside of gameex displaying the moonbase backdrop in space invaders for example. Yet i cant get it working in gameex when choosing the game. Its been awhile since ive dablled into gameex(full version of course) and its got me buggered. All paths and files are correct. Id appreciate some enlightenment here hehe. thx fellas.

well overlays seem to be ok, but have no idea why background artwork fails to show up. I have unzipped my artwork as well, in case this was the issue, but still same problem.

You don't have to unzip them. Check the Advanced configuration tool, and make sure it has the correct path to the backdrops. Also, with some ROM changes, sometimes the backdrops get lost in the shuffle as well. Make sure you have the latest of everything.

The best thing to check is to see what GameEx is actually running when you launch the game. Edit the "runitgame.bat" file in the GameEx directory to see the exact command line that is being run. This is usually very educational and resolves all questions. I personally don't send any arguments to MAME from GameEx. I put all configuration stuff in a mame.ini file and let GameEx just send "mame.exe [ROM]" as my command line. That way I know any error is with my MAME config and not with GameEx.

thx fellas. ok first off here is runitgame @ECHO OFF

E:

CD "E:\MAME"

mame.exe invaders -rompath "E:\MameExtras\mame_fullromset\Roms" -video d3d -triplebuffer -nowindow -joy

running that i see background moonbase image, but whole screen looks tiny for some reason. As in, the artwork fills the screen but why is invaders looking ever so tiny?

You may need to play with the crop settings as well. Some games have enormous overlays/bezels that when displayed cause the game to be itty-bitty. I don't know if invaders is one such game though.
