I am building my Arcade Cab computer and was going to put on MCE 2005 so I can utilize all of GameEX, but I heard that it is a system resources hog. I am putting in an Athlon 3700 in order to help with some of the newer fighting games, but don't want to use MCE if I am shooting myself in the foot by using MCE. This Cab will solely be for emulating games, with maybe some jukebox capabilities and photo slideshows. I am not going to be watching movies or recording TV. Thanks for your opinions...

Ermmm, am unclear as to why you feel you need MCE at all...

Gameex is a perfect stand alone product and should do what you want it to do with out the headache (and i use it so can say that) of mce.

The only extra thing yourll get from GameEx if using MCE I can think of is is more of the buttons on the MCE Remote work.

I was given a copy as a gift, that is why I was going to use it, but if it is a system hog, then I will return it for XP. That is why I was curious.

If youve already bought it my verdict would be to keep it if you got the remote with it so you an use the remote with GameEx, and it has everything XP Pro has. If you dont want TV you can just disable those services, then I am guessing ther'll be no resource hogging issues.

Edit: In my opinion its not resource hoggin anyway (version 2005)

Right on, thanks! That's what I was looking for. I didn't want to hassle with taking it back if it didn't make a difference. I didn't know whether it was a "hog" or not, that's just what I heard, not that I believe ALL locker room talk...

Thanks again.

I've used MCE on my desktop machine. It is virtually identical to Windows XP pro, it just has a few media center specific applications added on. If you don't launch the media center front end you'd probably forget that it was Media Center Edition in the first place.
