OK Look I've had a good search through the forums and there's bits and pieces of info which don't make alot of sense to me. Some of them are years old too. I want to get things like Gens32 Surreal and Amiga working but I cannot get any games to show up in the games list, I've set the roms folder to point to where the game roms are located, and I even zipped a couple in case that was the problem but no matter what still no games in the lists.

Mame works like a dream however :D This is the best, I'm going to buy it asap

Where to start...

If you're using a common emulator, just import the settings using the IMPORT button on the Advanced Configuration (like 3rd or 4th page). Set the paths according to your install (it defaults to C:/EMULATORS) and then if you still have problems we'll get into your setup further.

The Emulator is Gens32 Surreal not the latest version but not that old, I picked it in the "Emulator Selection" in the setup wizard (it's mentioned there specifically), I enabled it, I set the path in the ROM Path box, I set the working directory to the directory the exe is in, I set the exe to Gens32 Surreal.exe . Anyway after setting all the paths there is still "No Games found" when I pick Gens32 Surreal from the Emulated Games page.

I have double checked the paths, the roms are definitely there but nothing in GameEX

As I mentioned I thought maybe the games need to be zipped, but that made no difference

Further I found the other configuration editor within GameEx, used the import function as you said, changed the paths as before, saved it, still no games in the list. It's not trying to filter by rom type or something is it?

On the last (or next to last) page fpr that emulator's setup, is 7zip/Goodmerge: set to YES? If it is, set it to No (or False, can't remember which off top of my head).

Yeah it's set to "No", I found the config editor that is launched within GameEX and redid everything that way but still nothing. Surely it doesn't filter out the rom files? they are .bin and .smd files that Gens32 has always used.

Thanks for taking an interest by the way. It would be a dream to have this frontend work for Amiga, Megadrive etc as well as mame. I got an X-Arcade and an old arcade cabinet so I want to get it all happening as a one-stop shop y'know? B)

If none of your roms show in the list, you may need to check the setting for Rom filter. The setup wizard has a search feature...

Thank you very much, I did figure it out myself, well kinda! I realised I had not made a mapfile, I would hate to think what I'd go through if I had hundreds of games! Surely there's a script or something to scan trough the named directory and just knock up a mapfile from whatever is there. This could be edited for correctness.. am I missing something along these lines? Then I had the old screen going black then returning to GameEx, I realised next that my executable had a space in the filename, ficed that and next the emulator starts up but not with any game loaded.

After much mucking about I got it going! I realised you need :

A) A mapfile

B) ...er B) ... damn smilies Bee) Directories set (ie) The ROM Path, Working Directory and Path to .map file

C) (an .exe with no spaces in it followed by) "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" in the Command Line: Box

What was screwing me up was the default setup for Gens Surreal had "[ROMPATH\ROMFILE] rolled in together which doesn't seem to work.

Add that one to the wiki :) Thanks guys. I think the mapfile is a key thing that was in no way made out as important, I found out about it by wondering what it was in the config and clicking the help! It should be listed as a vital thing along with the exe
