Can someone please give me an idea of how to fix the grayed out names. I have set emulators before and when the names were unselectable I tell it to ignore the database. With Raine I am trying to use the supplied map file but the name is grayed out and unselectable regardless of what I try to start. Tried Raine from command line, all is well. All paths are set correctly. Tried with no database selected and with mame one elected (since there doesn't appear to be a database for [arcade] Raine... though I guess it is unneeded since there is the map file). Any ideas? anyone?

I've never seen them grayed out before so we'll have to troubleshoot a few things. First thing I see wrong is that you're using 7zip support. This will cause issues. Raine uses zipped roms so in your setup you currently have it unzipping them. Try that first. As far as the map file, map files just change the name of the rom for a better format. I see you're using the one included in with GameEx. I'm not sure what version of Raine that's for. Also using the database shouldn't have a factor on anything. It just gives more info options to the games that are listed in mame so it's the one you need to use since there is currently no nonmame database. You're also using the database name so not sure if that conflicts with the map. You'll have to test and see how it affects it. So there's some things for you to try.

Working! It was the zips. I have had to turn them off before to stop the graying out of the name; but on Raine, since all roms were zipped, I thought zip should be on. On other emus I have had zip probs and simply unzipped all games/roms; turned off zip feature and worked. I just thought on this one like Mame they had to be zips and zips needed to be on as a feature because of it.

Live and we learn

Thanks!!!

Good deal!

Note: 7zip\Zip support is for roms that are either goodmerged or are of course zipped but where the emulator does not support zip files. This is a rare occasion so by default I wouldn't use this feature unless the above situations occur. Roms will still run for most emulators but you must be careful with your filters. I would say that for Arcade system emulators, I would never use this feature.
