6th April, 2009 - GameEx 10

Well, here it is folks - GameEx version 10. I wanted to do more for this release, but there will be more to come. Finally with this release probably the most requested feature is now available. Complete menu customization is now possible. Organize the layout, structure and appearance of the GameEx pages, and create your own menu system. Unfortunately there is no GUI tool for this yet, but I plan to work on one shortly. In addition, I have idiot proofed things a little. Errors with an emulator configuration are now reported directly in the front end, and when a theme wont load due to a resolution difference GameEx will switch to the default theme. GameEx will also search for a MAME executable if the path is correct but the executable is not. Finally theres various minor bug fixes and optimizations.

yep its me that idiot that allway has probs when i get my hands on a new update!

just done the update to version 10. check round to see if all is ok and have a prob with my dreamcast game

showing game name as -Emu- and not ikaruga game name! i only have one game in there and it was ok befor

is it something to do wiv the new custom menus or is this reporting an error in gameex with my dc emul setup.

Can you try deleting the map file for that emu in the data folder.

This really is a fantastic release. Will be really fun to finish my theme "in progress". Does this mean that I can use different font colour for different objects as well? Like white title text, and a different shades of gray on gamelist, time/date etc?

On another note, here's a question about a recent addition: How do I turn of the "merge" function for my MAME list?

Thanks.

No, not quite, this feature is for arranging the menus. Say you want Jukebox on the start page, or 4 different nintendo emulator setups under a seperate Nintendo menu.

The merge feature is just for emulators right now, not mame.

Wow. Between the emulator mapping and custom menus, you've added a TON of functionality and customization in just a few weeks. Amazing. Keep up the great work.

I was en route back home from vacation today. I get home, fire up the laptop, and find this... Holy Crap!

However, I'll be the Judge of this:

I'm glad you stepped up. Someone had to! :P

I've been glancing over the custom menu stuff in CustomMenu.ini. It looks pretty thorough from what I can see. It'll take a bit to figure out all the little details though since it is so detailed. Out of curiosity, you mentioned said "there is no GUI tool for this yet, but I plan to work on one shortly", so does that mean a short term goal of days or a longer term goal like weeks? The only difference is how much effort I put in to learn the text file format. If a nice tool is days away, I'd probably just wait. If it were further down the road then I'll at least play with it to try to break it ;)

Oh, one question now that I think about it. I don't see any way to insert a blank line in the menu. Did I miss it, or is this not currently possible? Thanks!

I've been playing around a bit with the new custom menus and have a couple questions. How do you create a menu item for the special MAME lists (NeoGeo, CPS, Atari, Golden Age, etc)? Also, I see that there is a parameter that needs to be added for each item. MAME, All Games list, News, Search, etc. don't have any parameters, do they? Just curious if there's any hidden features I should search for ;)

BK, thats not currently supported, too much work for now. I did spend all day yesterday (16 hour day) working on a gui tool for this feature though. Its almost complete.

Wow :o Don't think the effort isn't appreciated!

I set up a file to test things out and it looks like this should be really sweet! I noticed a couple little quirks, but I'm not sure if that's related to me defining the file incorrectly or an actual problem. I'm going to play a bit more, but so far things look awesome!
