Hi guys,

I have a slight problem with Game ex and Xpadder. Basically I have just bought a new PC and transferred everything over from my old one. On the old one, I had my SFIV TE stick set up with Xpadder which worked fine.

However now I am using the new PC and xpadder, I just cannot use the stick to navigate the menus. It seems to work fine once I actually get into games but it is not recognised in Game Ex. the movements of the stick are recognised by xpadder itself, but this does not seem to be picked up at all by Game EX. I'm pretty sure my config is the same as it was on the old PC.

Any one got any ideas? Cheers.

Disable slikstik input (direct input). If that doesn't help, post your config and a log file. Please post as an attachment (rename to .txt or zip prior to posting).

Hi it did not help I am afraid, I've attatched the log file, but pardon my stupidity, I'm not sure which config file to attach?

I think it might not be a problem with Gameex itself, perhaps something else causing the issue, Vista perhaps? Also I've rtied Joy2Key as well, but it's not recognised either.

Have you verified that XPadder is sending keys at all? You can either open notepad and verify that keys are typed or use a key capture program (there's at least one in the download section of the GameEx website).

It is yes! I have a sneaky suspicion it may have something to do with my dual monitor display (which incidentally I also can't get working properly now I've changed to vista) I should also add, the buttons on the stick work fine (they are not set up in xpadder, I assume Game Ex itself just recognises these) Oddly the stick has worked on rare occasion in Game Ex but then If I quit a game and let it go back to Game ex menu, it won't work again. Frustrating is not he word! So it seems to work sporadically and I can't seem to recreate when it works fine.

As a final note, when the stick (on rare occasion) works with game ex, there are no menu movement sounds, I'm not sure if this is relevant but I thought i'd include it anyway.

Just curious, but why are you using XPadder? I see that you have a SFIV stick which is detected as a gamepad. I'm just wondering why you are using XPadder when this stick *should* work correctly out of the box. Also, you might find that the GameEx custom inputs work better than XPadder for this stick.

Well for some reason the buttons work fine, but the stick itself is not recognised, because it recognises it as POV? or something like that.

I've attatched the gameex.ini file,

Thanks.

This is something that can be resolved by using custom joystick inputs in GameEx. Tom redid all of the inputs recently so you can now use a POV switch rather than a D-Pad. I would recommend checking it out.

Ah! this must be where I'm going wrong, pardon my ignorance, but how would I configure this? Also thanks for persevering with me so far!

Just go into the Setup Wizard and navigate to the custom joystick input page (can't remember what it's called at the moment). You should be able to figure it out there. If for some reason you can't set it up in the Setup Wizard the way you want, you may need to use the Advanced Configuration tool. Not all options are available in the Setup Wizard intentionally to keep it from being overwhelming to new users. Again, I don't recall where the menu is located, but you will have more options in the Adv. Conf. tool than in the Setup Wizard. Hope that helps.

If you want to try manually, you can always go to the c:\program files\gameex\config directory and edit the custominputs.ini file by hand. The setup tool automates this process, but you can certainly do it manually as well (that's how we did it until a few months ago).

Anyway, if you need more help, just ask. ^_^

I think i'll give up. I've tried both suggested ideas and still can't get the stick to map, it's like it's not detected. Thanks anyway though.

One last thing you can try that should definitely work. Turn off the joystick inputs in GameEx completely and use custom keyboard input. That's how I have my system set up and I know for a fact that it should work.
