I am considering adding a second screen to my mameroom UA II Cabinet. This would be used to display CPWizard control layouts, or instruction cards or High Scores.

I was looking at the touchscreen models considering that perhaps I could use a juke box application there as well.

This would either mount below my monitor (if it were a motorized in dash type or between my speakers (for the flip down)

Has anyone done this? I have read about Marquee Magician, etc and I current use CPWizard for control display before the games, but it would be nice to have them displayed all the time.... or be able to play a juke box app through a second sound card.

Has anyone gone down this road? Here is a link to the in-dash unit I was considering:

yeh its some thing im working on my self my new unit arriveds tommorw. But im waiting till its arrived.

Personly though after my exp with ebay i wouldnt bother with them esp if some thing goes wrong your warrnety means naf all and you have no leg to stand on.

So i have orderd this from http://www.carcomputer.co.uk/

Lilliput EBY701-NP/C/T

Now for the specs

Specifications:

MODEL:EBY701-NP/C/T

COLOR SYSTEM:PAL-4.43 / NTSC-3.58

DISPLAY SCREEN: Diagonal 7 inches / 178mm (15:9)

DOTS PIXELS:1152000 pixels(800*480)

AUDIO OUTPUT: ≥100mW

CONTRAST RATIO:200:1

BRIGHTNESS: 400cd/m2

VIEWING ANGLE: 45/60(U/D),65/65(L/R)

INPUT VOLTAGE: DC 11-13V

POWER CONSUMPATION: ≤10W

DIMENSION (mm): 192Ã?115Ã?30

Its a 4 wire USB rententive touch screen. 12 Volts power and allso VGA. It can do highter then 800*600 but then it would look small and is pointless.

Now after much research i found that the 800*480 is just the moniters Res. Ill be running it at 800*600 giving me full scope to run it with GameEX.

Ive allso been testing out a 4" PS1 Screen and it works fine with the software allso though the screen is a little flack to be honist.

Another Idea:

Since you are using a touchscreen... and I probably will as well... would it be possible to have itunes or something running on that screen only while mame or gameex is on the other?

Just thinking of various uses... above and beyone the display controls idea.

Think you sold me on the idea... not that I needed help... but as mine will not be in the CP, but under the monitor, I may go with the in-dash retractable model... I even managed to find a motorized one rather than the one above.

Also, since it has two AV inputs as well as VGA, maybe I can switch from itunes to CP display using the source button.

You may be able to switch sources, but you might have difficulty with the touch screen/mouse location when switching. I'm not sure how those things connect so this may not be an issue. Just pointing it out so you can make sure it won't cause problems.

Not sure I would even really use the touch screen unless it could be used for Jukebox controls, iTunes or to switch views on the monitor.

Imagine a tabbed interface (like multiple tabs in Firefox) that had CP View, System Stats, Jukebox, Cabinet/marquee/CP of original photos, game info, etc that was available separate from what is running on the main display.

That would rock!

Ive been playijng. Oky Big problem when Gameex is running any thing on the touch screen will not work. As far as it is concerned basicly Gameex takes over and locks the mouse on the game ex screen. So you can see what is going on with the second screen but you cannot play with it.

So while gameEX is running the second screen can only be used to show info and the like. How ever useing macros i can get all most any thing to show in the back ground on the second screen.

Allso some stuff will only start up on the main screen and useing macros you can use them to move the program across to the second screen and then goto to full screen on the second screen.

There is lots of options there.

Im tyring to look for a jukebox that will allow to show visual effects on a seprate box that can be moved about. this will allow me to move the visual effects to the main screen and keep the Juke box on the second screen to press and play the music from.

you can see some macros being used here to move sceens about on game ex e.g the juke box.

You might be able to make GameEx windowed. If you do that, then the mouse won't be locked. The only thing you would want to do is play with the location and size of the window to make the bar disappear. You might end up with a bar on the side too (on the side where the second monitor is displayed), so adjusting your over scan might help there.
