After one of the auto-updates gameex now loads the hideOS application which does nothing more than turn my entire screen black forcing me to pull the power plug on my HTPC (no keyboard) This is and has been always turned off in the advanced config.

How do I stop this stupid thing, it's driving me insane!

Edit: FYI, I'm an engineer, not a n00b so it's rare that I post questions.. just frustrated..

Can you post your gameex.ini ? and your log?

BTW: It doesnt matter if your a N00b or not. Everyone gets the same treatment. :)

HideOS Should never force you to turn off your PC. It should exit with gameex. We are aware the way it works.

You should always be able to CTRL+ALT+DEL and close the process.

this happened to me also

Wobbly!!! Long time no see. Hmm perhaps a bug snuck in there. Can you also post your log? Tom may know about this already but just in case.

Please explain, Mr Hoffman. :) (Sorry, just couldn't help myself).

Thanks for pointing that out for me :) I'm fully aware of how to end processes, but there is no Ctrl, Alt, or Del keys on my controller. (one of these days I'll buy pinnacle game profiler for those advanced functions)

Log shows "Launching HideOS.exe" and "Hiding Taskbar" but besides that is completely normal. I don't have a "crashed" log file right now since the last log was of me simply opening and closing gameex, and I can't run it now since I'm not home (nabbing the config file via RDC)

Here's my config:

edit: codebox fail... attaching .txt file instead

Im looking through your config now.

Well, If your limited to keypresses you can always use an AHK script to map ESC or another button to kill the hideos process

ESC::

Process, Close, Hideos.exe

While we figure it out...

EDIT: It looks like you did turn it off and your emus do not have showdesktop turned off. Post your log so we can see a litle info about your system. Are you using an Nlighted install? Something is causing it to not minimise and maximise properly.

Of course it's off, that's what I told you! ;)

What's an "Nlighted install?" (I think that answers your question)

I went as far as installing logmein on my media center so I could run Gameex remotely, wouldn't have enough free time to do anything after work.

Here's your log file, please ignore the invalid path errors, they don't exist yet as I haven't decided if I want to add the extras, so I left the paths in place in case I do decide to do it.

Does it do this with all emulators?

Yes, it even does it when playing .avi files from multimedia. I should note that it doesn't always crash though, and I only need this for a couple emulators simply because I keep them windowed (as opposed to fullscreen) for various reasons, and hideOS will hide the emulator window.

Now that there's a new release that allows deleting hideOS, I think I'm going to just do that.

Before you go ahead and delete it can you tell me if the issue is fixed in the latest version?

Seems to be. I haven't deleted it yet, although I haven't had much free time to play with my toys. If it happens again, you'll be the first to know ;)

Edit: Spoke too fast...

Please remember - NO KEYBOARD!

Loaded up an NES game and was greeted with a black screen with no mouse.. emulator is playing (can hear sound) but everything except the windows taksbar is hidden... which is functional, and the cursor appears after I manage to guess the right spot to click to get the start menu. I've attached a screenshot so you can see exactly what it looks like
