i get this when i start gammex.

Well it's saying that it can not find the ROM path. So fix that. Don't know which one you need to fix since you didn't post the whole log. Maybe perhaps for MAME?

Yup! It's your MAME Path! It doesn't display anything so I'm assuming you have that blanked out? Point it to the path of your MAME roms.

It's an external application so it can be started itself. Just click Start>>>All Programs>>>GameEx>>>Advanced Configuration or Setup Wizard. Whichever one you prefer.

Is error still blank for ROM path? Post LOG again please.

you can also try to edit the gameex.ini file yourself, but for me the external configuration tool that frequency mentioned always worked and i usually use this tool instead of the internal configuration menu.. I'm pretty sure this error occurs because you have a ! in your file structure

It's not just your ROMs path you have to change, it's the MAME executable path as well.

I strongly suggest you create a folder in the c: root called 'MAME'. Then dump all MAME files/folders into that.

Right now you have it buired in a very long path structure on your desktop. If it's a security issue, just create a single file on the desktop name 'MAME' (or whatever you want) and do the same.

Then use the GameEx config tool to set the rom and program paths.

Also... dump MAME32. Although GameEx will use it, the stripped version of MAME is better. Using MAME32 with GameEx is basically using two GUI's together. MAME32 is just a GUI, it's not a program.

Next you have to 'update list' under the MAME area of GameEx once it's running. It might take a while for GameEx to finish this process.

Then you should be good to go. Also remember .... you MUST match your version of MAME with the correct version of MAME roms. So if you are using MAME .130... they can't be roms from MAME .98.
