Hello Gents,

I am at the point of tackling the C64 games that I want accessable in my list, so 1-by-1 I sort them, get all my images and set them up. I am noticing that some of the games show the text information from the GameEx database, others do not.

I am using the Goodname set with most of them, but that is still not a complete set... so how do I name missing games that I add? For instance, Flight Simulator II, it's in the database, but no matter what I name it, the text does not appear. Games like Bruce Lee have multiple Goodname names, and one name without a number. Neither of them display the text.

How does this work?

Thanks,

IM[going]Berzerk

PS... I also notice some games link with other systems, but not MAME. Battlezone is a good example of this. 2600, 5200, 7800, C64... no MAME

going, going, gone :)

The c64 database is a long way from completion and the data within is still in a state of muddle. There is a lot to be done with that one, so, a lot of stuff will not match sadly.

Flight Simulator II is named "Flight Simulator II (2810)" or "Flight Simulator II (2811)" depending on the version, but.... neither versions have any data in the db! Nothing but the database name and the goodname. Bruce lee does have info, but as yet this is not matched to a goodname entry, so will not be displayed either. There are nearly 20000 entries to be done on it :( so, sorry if it takes a while...

Also, sorry that I have sadly been neglecting the databases for a while :( I will get back on top of them again.

Ahhh... ok.. so it is something more than it appears. :)

No problem, jeeze... it's a great thing you're doing this to being with, please don't even think that you're being pressured. I was just wondering why if there is info there, it doesn't show. Now I understand.

All the best,

Don´t know if this is allowed to be asked - if not, just delete this post -, but is filling the db done manually?

I have been thinking about taking a look into Auto-it and trying to build some kind of special website parser which extracts some information. I did not make it as a proposal because I am not a student anymore, have a family and (still) a job etc. - so I don´t know if I have enough time left if this idea would become to complicated. Would a script like this help filling the database? In the last weeks, I took several times a look at gb64.com (especially because of GoodTools renaming) and just visited mobygames.com (because of the descriptions, screen- and packshots).

A tool like this already exists. It was created by headkaze. Discussion about it can be found here.

As this tool is not public, I did not know what it does exactly.

The software I've written already does everything we need as far as database management and data mining. I also wrote a routine to import the GameBase 64 database but unfortunately it doesn't have descriptions and such. There is alot of work involved to fill out this info as it's a huge database and Flash has been doing most of the data entry for that.
