Left GameEx on overnight, controller doesn't work anymore in menus

Hi,

I recently started setting up a HTPC with Gameex. It seems like a good solution. I've got it mostly working ok, but I've run into a strange issue:

I want to control my HTPC completely with a wireless Xbox gamepad. Ok, fine so far. Except, after leaving Gameex running overnight, when I come back in the morning the Xbox gamepad is unresponsive - I can't navigate the menus.

No, its not because the controller shut off. Obviously I power it back on with the xbox button, but it still doesn't work. And I don't think its related to controller power-saving anyway - since I watched a movie, and the controller shut itself down. But I powered it on and it worked fine again. The problem has only happened after leaving Gameex on overnight.

Its very annoying because basically I need to reboot - since I have no keyboard or mouse plugged into the htpc to control it any other way.

Ideas please? I checked the FAQs and didn't see anything about this.

i have the same issues with a wired ps2 controller that is connected to the machine via adapter.

it works fine but when i leave it in gameex menu for lets say an hour or even less it becomes unresponsive!

Its my second Gameex setup that is basically a karaoke machine that can be controlled by the joypad. It has some emulators on there but the friends I build it for are using it almost exclusively for karaoke. I just told them they should restart the system whenever it becomes unresponisve so it became kind of a habit. This is maybe a good opportunity to pick up this problem again and see if this is related to a bug in the way gameex handles joypads. I never had such problems when using keyboard (xarcade) as an input source.

Anyone else using joypads to control gameex? If you guys dont have this problem maybe it makes sense to compare logs!

Hi Chriss,

Sounds like the same issue there. I just tried Gameex today after leaving it overnight again and same problem. Unresponsive.

Its especially annoying since my htpc runs my torrents in the background - and so rebooting it restarts the torrent downloads.

Gotta be a simple fix for this somewhere...

Same Problem here, ive got 4 ps2 controllers connectes via adapters. it happens after 1,5 houres of doing nothing. keyboard commands also dont work, except esc. :P

are you sure this happens exactly after 1,5 hours?

hell no, not shure if its exactly 1.5 hours. but around that.

Oh no  actually the problem accured after 10minutes of doing nothing  semms like theres no certian time after that happens..

in my case, only the esc button still works, no input from joystick or other keyboard controls.. can someone confirm this?

same here, it happens at random times. sometimes already after 10 min...

i cant test if keyboard input is still working after that because this gameex setup i have at another place. but if i remember it correctly it didnt take keyboard inputs after it occured.

I'm pretty sure that Tom Speirs, the developer of Gameex read our topic. But I guess for now there is no answer to why this is happening or how it can be fixed. so thats probably why we didnt get an answer yet!

It would be good to know if gamepad controller input for gameex is working for other members (for longer than lets say a period of 2 hours without pushing a button) By now we are three people with the problem. If gamepad input for other member works we could compare log files with them!

Maybe its useful for Tom to collect some specs from the systems where the problem accured, so heres mine:

GameEx Version 9.93

Resolution 1440x900

Win Xp Prof. sp2

Core 2 Duo E4600

ATI Radeon X1600

2Gb OCZ

Onbóard 7.1 Sound

I'm using 2x dual PSX Pad Adapters (so 4 PSX Gamepads) and one Adaptiod (n64). No Keyboard (IR Remote with certains Buttons like ESC on it), no Mouse (Adaptiod Mouse Emulation).

Problem also appeared on my Test- PC:

Gameex 9.93

1024x768

Win XP Sp2 Prof

Athlon Xp 2400

ATI Radeon 9600

Typhoon 5.1

1GB Ram

One Dual PSX Adapter, G11 Keyboard, Logitec Mouse.

i don't have a keyboard attached either... only the gamecontroller!

maybe this is part of the problem... i cant test it right now since the gameex pc is at another place. but maybe this is part of the problem!

aen, could you try to see if it works with keyboard attached?

Look at my second system. keyboard (logictec g11) is connected, problem remains :(

I have similar problems with GameEx becoming unresponsive.

http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=7216

Similarly, GameEx was just waiting for input. I was browsing the built in radio stations and left one playing.

I would guess it became unresponsive after about 15 minutes.

I'm not sure if i have the windows screensaver turned off or on (Laptop is not with me at the moment to check).. is there a screensaver built in to GameEx and are they tripping over each other or something ?

Hi,

Its just sitting there in the GUI. I haven't set up a screensaver in Gameex, nor one in Windows. As I said before, I'm able to still control using a mouse. But of course most of the time I have no mouse connected ;)

My system:

Win XP SP2

Pentium Dual Core 2.5ghz

2gb RAM

onboard Geforce 7 video

Gamepad is a X360 controller /w wireless USB adapter

Running Gameex 9.9.3

Hybrid Blue - Widescreen skin

Thanks :)

doesnt solve the problem for me :(

btw.: tweak was ment for modems, when windows decides to save energie.. guess the problem ist based on somethign else, since it came up on rev 9.9x

older versions doesnt have that bug für me

thats interesting to know! so 9.8x works fine? is there a way to get this version somewhere?

Posted

I cant see how 9.8 does not have this problem, hopwever it could be possible. Are you using custom joystick/keyboard controls.

I see no logs or GameEx.ini's in this topic.

EDIT FYI: Nothing changed with the contol system in GameEs AFAI until 9.94, but I see from some of the earlier posts people were using 9.93.

I dont know if this is a bug in GameEx I intoduced or it always been there. Like I say need logs and GameEx.ini
