Hello,

I would like to hibernate my cabinet from GameEx. This would allow my 6 yr old son to start the cabinet with only the push of a button or move of a joystick and not have to enter passwords to get to the media server. When I navigate to the GameEx Exit page it gives me the options of logging off, restarting, exiting GameEx, turning the system off and standby (but this doesn't turn off the fans, lights, etc.). If I exit GameEx and go to the Windows (XP) shutdown I have all those options plus Hibernate. I wanted to see if it's a Windows option I need to set or if it's even possible for GameEx before making a feature request.

Thanks in advance

Perhaps you could do this with an application? I believe shutdown.exe can call the hibernate process, so perhaps you could use that?

EDIT:

BAH, I found an easier way. Add this command as your application.

%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Hibernate

NOTE: This command will work with XP, but it will probably need to be different for other systems.

This would be nice to have in GameEx, so perhaps it should be added as a feature request. I can't remember though if there were issues with coming out of a suspended state with controls working in GameEx. I suppose you will find out shortly!

Hi

Not really a solution to your specific question, but I'm just curious :)

Why not configure the cabinet for autologin into XP, and the 'remember' the passwords needed for remote mounted folder ?

If no passwords are needed anymore, you could just let windows decided when to hibernate (and when to standby)

Papazark, I wasn't aware of a function like that. If I could get that to work it would resolve my issues. A little more detail though. All my computers are setup without passwords. So the cabinet was set to boot straight into GameEx. The files were located on a different computer and as long as the computer with the files was on, the arcade cabinet would go straight into GameEx. I just bought a network attached storage device and it requires password the first time after a reboot even with mapped folders (but not after hibernate). Does XP have an auto remember and input password feature? If so I'll try it.

Bkenobi, I'm not very computer literate but I assume you want me to copy that command line to GameEx as an external application? I've never played with that feature in GameEx before but I'll try it tonight and let you guys know if anything wonky happens.

Yup. Just create a new external app in GameEx and use the command line above. You can play with how it shows up in the list so it doesn't display details so when you select the app, it just hybernates the machine. I haven't played with it at all in relation to GameEx, but I did run the command on my XP laptop and it worked fine.

the Manage Network Passwords was on Vista, not sure it exists on XP. (no more XP here :) )

1- try creating a real account on your cab, and login with that account

2- try mounting your NAS as a mapped drive (reconnect at logon)

3- reboot the CAB, login with your new account and see if it's working

4- if it's working that way, setup autologin (by editing the registry)

5- if not working, try creating an account on your cab that has the same name and password as the NAS :) (or change the NAS user/password)

I'm not familiar with NAS, but are there any firmware update or things like that to perform ?

That's probably the easiest way as Windows should automatically attempt to use the existing credentials when accessing the remote machine. A lot will depend on the NAS though...this should work with a NAS running an embedded version of Windows but I'm not sure what would happen with a Linux based one.

I tried adding an external application with that comand line. It didn't show up in GameEx. Do I need to designate a file path or do something else in GameEx configuration to make it work?

Additionally, my NAS isn't Windows based. I was too cheap to pay the windows tax. But I'll try playing around with passwords and creating accounts. Thanks again for everyone's help.

I am running windowsXP with an arcade cabinet ( no keyboard or mouse ) and I have the same problem, I just didn't get there yet.

I used bkenobi's code line as an external application and it worked like a charm.

Thanks bkenobi :D

I just ran the configuration from Gameex and set up external applications.

I have the default applications 1,2 & 3 disabled, but put bkenobie's line in for ext. application 4. I called it Hibernate for obvious reasons. Now in my list on Gamex it shows up as Hibernate.

Did you browse to your directory for system32 ?

You can't put bkenobi's line in with the %windir% this is just a reference for where you but your directory path.

If your file system restores from hybernate, this should be your fix.

Thanks again for all the help everyone. Feel free to laugh at me, but I did copy the entire line with the %'s and all and put it in the command line section. After the fix it all works now. I can Hibernate via an external application and wake my cabinet by wiggling a joystick. It wakes back to GameEx without the need to re-enter any passwords. All the controls work too (mouse, IPAC interface, joysticks). I did check and there is a request to add Hibernate in the request section (page 20 something). Sleep would be a good idea for Vista as well if it helps when that request's turn comes up.
