I've poked around for an answer, but I can't figure out where (or if) there's a setting so that when Gameex is in vertical mode (90 degrees rotation) that the mouse's orientation (axes) also changes. The keyboard arrows navigate correctly, but the mouse (aka trackball) remains in the standard horizontal mode.

Edit: mame32 takes care of this for the game itself...I'm just talking about navigating through Gx

Thanks E.T., however I'm resistant to adding things on to the computer which is quite old and slim on horsepower and memory. I was hoping I had just missed a switch somewhere in Gx, but if not I'll end up disabling mouse support.

It looks like this software is simply an augmented driver, so it shouldn't affect performance. The only downside is the ~6kb it will take up in hard drive space.

So I'm inferring by omission that there is no setting in GameEx I overlooked? That's all I'm really trying to find out firstly, then move on from there :)

I don't run a vertical cab, so I can't say for sure. I was pretty sure that GameEx switched the mouse to work correctly though. So, if you are rotated 90° then the mouse axis should be switched. I don't think there's an option though (I've never run across one in either config tools). You might look in the gameex.ini file directly, but again, I've never seen anything.

I think somebody else had mentioned this in the past, and that Tom had fixed it. Are you using an older version of GameEx?

Thanks Tempest,

Older-ish :) 9.29, for reasons described over here.

It's not a show stopper if that's the case, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.

I was thinking of you the other day. I came across someone on C.L. selling a Tempest game here in S.E. Mass...or it might have been RI. Anyway, it disappeared pretty quickly.

I skimmed that topic... I know you already know this, but Tom probably isn't going to fix an old version of GameEx, so you can run an older version of Mame, on an older OS. (no disrespect intended) I don't suppose your video card has rotation capabilities? I had a piece of crap dell with on-board video, and it had the capability. Otherwise you could try the software mentioned, or buying an inexpesive card that can rotate.

Hmmm.... Another trick you could try is to setup a newer version of mame in the mame section of GameEX using the latest version of GameEx. Then point to your older version of Mame in the Use Advance Mame section. That way, Gameex can use the newer version to obtain the information it needs, and you can run the older version to play games. You wouldn't notice any difference in the way Mame works. The Mame.exe is 32k though...

I can't believe you didn't get the Tempest machine. :P How much did it sell for?
