It's been awhile since I've done this and can't remember what to do really. I added some new roms to GameEx but they aren't showing up my game lists....how do I get GamEx to recognize newly added games again? I can't remember how to do it and I didn't see a function for it in advanced configuration.

Thx!!

For what system? If adding into an emulator than GameEx should recognize a change and add it for you. If not then there might be a problem with the way it's cached. If you're mean for MAME then you have to update your list found on the bottom of the page in the MAME section of GameEx.

It's for MAME....When im in GameEx i dont see a button or option to update my list....is it possible I may have hid that function somehow? or even turned it off somehow? Where exactly in GameEx in the MAME section would it appear?

Thanks!!!

Could be hidden if you have it set to hide. In either GameEx Configuration or GameEx Setup Wizard the setting can be found in the Enable/Disable Features known as Hide Update List. If it is set to YES then it will be hidden. If it is set to NO then the update list in GameEx would be found in the main MAME page. If you click MAME from the MAIN menu of GameEx then it should appear on the bottom of the list unless of course you have it hidden as mentioned.

I have a problem similar to this, but for ZSNES... I changed the naming for a few of my files and now they're not showing up at all... =?

Actually changed the name of your files or the display names in GameEx?

The only reason a game wouldn't show up for an emulator other than MAME is the file extension. If you have a filter set up to show only *.nes (for NES obviously), then it will only show the rom files with that extension. If you add new ones that are zipped, they won't show up obviously.

Changed it from, for example, "Kirby Super Star (U) [!]" or whatever to "Kirby Super Star (USA)", based on RomCenter's changing the name...

Er, so, the file.

Post your config for that system please! What naming convention did you change from and to using RomCenter? Looks like changed from goodname to no-intro.

I changed them from the file names they originally had to no-intro.

So, still no fix? The files are not zipped; the EMU_2.map/dbcache/dbcacheini files (emu 2 being ZSNES) only lists the 4 files, and deleting it doesn't rebuild the database. There must be a way to just rebuild the emulator databases...?

Try turning the DATABASE off! Just select the blank option in either of the GameEx Setups.

Doing that changed absolutely nothing--it's still the same 4 games that have been appearing, only now the database details for them don't appear.

Going back on what bkenobi said, I would look into the rom filters. Clear that section and it should list everything in that folder.

Oh god, I'm so stupid. I see what happened now. The rom renaming changed all the suffixes to "sfc"... god, I feel so stupid for not realizing this, I'm so sorry!

LOL. No problem. Glad you got it fixed! Have fun! ;)

I'm surprised the emulator let you play files with the wrong extension. Enjoy!

Both extensions are actually supported. File extension sfc is used by No-Intro and smc is used by GoodTools.

Well there you go! I recently replaced most of my sets to keep them to a single file type. Before I did that, my N64 set was composed of 3 or 4 different types. I didn't like it, so I fixed it!

If built to a known naming convention (i.e. GoodTools, No-Intro, Tosec) then the roms will have all the same file extensions most of the time. IMO I think it's best to have all roms zipped for space and also most emulators support zip files to avoid this problem. And if an emulator doesn't support it then it's great that GameEx supports it.
