Flash,

OK New Year's res #1.... finish my Berzerk cabinet setup!! ;) So the Holidays are in the books... and I am down to two more emulaotrs, C64 and Amiga.

I downloaded and installed the C64 config files you made, along with the latest version of CCS64 direct from the website. The setup worked good, and the games show as zip files... but there is no video when I select a game. I can hear the sound, so I know it's running, but no video. The install was smooth and I changed all the file mappings as suggested... as well as changing the RUN/STOP key mapping in CCS64.

I tested CCS64 outside of GameEx and it works, so it's something between the two... maybe the Fullscreen command? Is there a specific screen res CCS64 has to be set to? It's all default right now.

Also, is there a way I can change the 'select Disk' button to another button other than F10? I do not have F10 mapped anywhere on my control panel... neither do I have <Shift>, so a two button keystroke is out is out as well.

Baiscally my cabinet is 'kid-proof', I removed all 'power-keys' from my control panel other than enter and escape. So I'm limited.

Thanks for the C64 config, and the links... and just about every other friggin' thing you've done for me... you rock!!

'Show Desktop' option in GameEX for that emulator ?

:)

:)

I didn't look at any options yet in GameEx, as it does not call for any in the setup. But I'll check that one. The screen is 'colored blank' meaning, it looks like something is running. So I don't know if that option causes that or not.

The black screen issue may be due to show desktop being off in your config. As you can tell, the desktop is set to off on my config and it works a treat? so, this is puzzling, and perhaps the only (iano's) solution that I can think off. You say that the games work out of gameex fine, is this in fullscreen? One suggestion is to associate D64 files to CCS and double click and check it works that way in full screen.

With regards to remapping F10, this is more the forte of Tempest or BK or BH. I donot have a cab so have not had course to do so, but I am 100% sure it is an option - just do not know how to do it :) You would then need cursors and return mapped for selection also.

I hope it is just the show desktop option that is the cause.

Hold on, just realised you have still got ccs set to default? You must have it set to fullscreen to work.

Open ccs. press Alt+V and select 640x480 as a resolution (hopefully it will be saying Window). then press RETURN on the resolution line. Once in fullscreen press alt+F4 to exit and then try again from GameEx (leave show desktop to OFF for now)

CCS should remember this setting. Ok, if this works, do the Alt+V again an try and find a resolution that suits your display and press return and then Alt+f4.

The reason is that the newer versions of CCS do not use the same fullscreen command. But this should cure it!

OK, that did the trick.... now about those F10 changes. I'll beg the other guys for some help on that one. It's a nice set-up and I can see the advantages... but damn those C64 games that still need the keyboard to play!!! :(

Luckily I have a mini-keyboard that I pull-out to access and use to play with.

All the best, and as always... thanks big-time for the help!

Not to be short, but you can do this yourself (I'll make a tutorial in the near future)

http://www.autohotkey.com/download/

http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Remap.htm

http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/Scripts.htm#ahk2exe

Come to think of it, with Headkaze's new AdvancedConfigEditor, you should be able to goto the Keyboard remap tab, and do it there. I think it can be accessed through the advanced configuration program, if not, it's located in the GameEx folder.

Tutorial Done! :D

Cool, Thanks Tempest.

I'll update GameEx and look for that new option HK put in there, hopefully that will do the trick.

The coding thing looks a little rough for me, but I've had to do worse. That webiste you linked to looks pretty easy. A few Scotches and I should be mentally ready. ;)

All the best

Let me know if that doesn't work out, and I'll do a real tutorial. I'm thinking it's not necessary...

Well that worked, and it worked very good. I remapped F9 to my 'M' key, no issues. Now... the problem is how do you back out of menus? I can't hit Esc as it drops me out of the overall emulator? I tried several remapping, only to realize it's not the remapping, it the key to close the CCS64 menus that's the problem. It needs to be something other than Esc to move out of menus. Drat... foiled again.

It's OK as long as you don't dive into any menus.

Once you have it set up, you should never need to enter the menus, apart from when changing discs, and then you just press return on the disc and emulation will continue, no need to press escape!

Glad it is all working,

OK, I'm almost there, a little more tweaking as what I have is not the same as what your's does. Your setup goes right into the disk selection, mine starts at the main menu, then I have to naviagte to it. But I see the problem, and I can fix it.

A little more work and I'll have it mapped to the key I need it set to and working well. I also noted I can map the other Function keys as well, which of course helps in Commodore games like Bruce Lee, and many that ask you to press 'F1' to start.

I can't thank you guys enough for the help. Espcially Tom and Ben for putting in this nice option. It makes a huge difference for the 'computer' emulators like C64 and Amiga.

Oh well.. this isn't working quite as I expected. For some reason, the CCS64 does not like the AutoHotKey inputs, it works great on everything else though.

How did you assign the keystroke that picked up only the selection of the next disk? Is this 'Alt-8' for Drive 8?

In AutoHotkey I have it as m::!8 which means that my 'm' key will simulate the Alt-8 keystroke. But all I get in CCS64 is an '8' when I press my 'm'. That's semi correct as it sees the '8' but not the 'Alt' keystroke. Any other program, this all works.

If the best I can do is use the 'F9' assignment in the GameEx config I made, that's OK too, as I can navigate to the Drive 8 and select the next Disk. Then it will jump back into the emulation.

It would be really great if HeadKaze's AdvancedConfig tool allowed for dual keystrokes. So I could assign 'M' to 'Alt-8'. Then we'd have it all covered.

Try alt instead of !

I did. I tried m::alt8

Autohotkey doesn't like it.

It likes the command, m::!8 but it doesn't seems to do anything with it in CCS64. The same command statement works fine in WinVice. The drive selection comes right up. But WinVice is requires a lot more keystrokes with <TAB> to access the games, and it's not as good as CCS64.

Sorted. I used the new GameEx built-in Key Re-mapper for a very interesting panel configuration. I now can maneuver through the required menus, access the disk menu, flip the joystick mapping if I have to... etc.

A little more than I needed, but it works great. I'm happy I can play all those multiple disk games now. :) Thanks for all the help guys. It great I can come back and rely on such helpful folks on this forum. :)
