Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with the ROMs from Jeff at Monstarcade? I've verified that the /roms path is correct and that the filter settings are wide open, but I'm still getting "no games found".

The game roms are in individually-named compressed (zip) folders. Perhaps I've missed a setting?

Thanks in advance.

Well Im not sure what ROMS jeff is packaging with his products. Selling/Providing ROMs with emulators is considered illegal.

Please contact Jeff for support regarding your product. Gameex is simply the frontend and we are not sure exactly how jeff is selling it and with what software other than gameex he is including.

I would hope (for legitimacy reasons) he is simply packaging midway classic collections that are perfectly legal to re-sell.

Either way Im not here to judge as I enjoy MAME very much and all the other emulators.

Jeff only provide roms, no emulators, and doesn't "sell" them.

Anyway, I was hoping for a more helpful answer. I've been using MAME (and GameEx) for several years but have just recently set up a new system and am having trouble.

Has anyone had experience with MAME roms located in individual folders per-game and with zip compression on the folder?

I can help you here... since you are a MAME user, and a GameEx user, this should be a quickie.

Regardless of where the ROMs came from, we'll simply say you got them from 'said' place. It's totally illeagal to post, suggest or plug any ROM locations on this site. But hey... we all screw-up now and then. ;)

If you are a MAME user, then you know all the ROMs go in the 'rom' folder in MAME and MAME sees them. They are all individual 'zipped' folders and have been like that for about 7 years now, if not more. If you run MAME outside of GameEx, and they all show/work, then you know your ROMs and MAME are good to go. Next.. GameEx.

If you've checked the paths, and they are all correct, then the list needs to be updated. Let it rebuild the list of games. It takes a while. If all filters are turned off like you said, then the list should work.

Regardless of where I get my ROMs from, they all show in the game list. Whether or not they actually work because of MAME updates, ROM compiles, or etc.. is another story. GameEx is a front end, it doesn't care where your ROM's are from, or if they are good or not. If the list is updated, the ROMs show. If you have all the filters turned off, the list will actually show EVERYTHING in the folder you have GameEx pointed at.

So try that.

Fellas,

I am not trying to give a buch of sh*t. Starting a post with "help me run roms" isn't really the best wording. Sorry

Have you tried "update List" feature in gameex? Perhaps it need to verify your roms against mame before it show you your available list.

Diffrent mame builds support diffrent roms.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I apologize for plugging - that wasn't my intention at all. Rather, I just wanted to cut to the chase if there was something specific about "said" roms that made them quirky. ;)

That said, I've definitely used "update list" and it's still not working. I'm going to go the route of deduction by trying it in MAME-only first (as suggested) and going from there.

Happy New Year all!

as with all emulators,

you should first get them running good outside of gameex,

then get working inside gameex,

a lot of newcomers makes this mistake

Okay, I solved the problem and it was a strange one.

It turned out that my dinput.dll file in /Windows/System32 was corrupt. Mame32 was throwing an error on this, but GameEx was not.

I let DirectX update - no dice, still bad. I replaced the corrupt file with a good version, confirmed that Mame32 was running as-intended and then rebuilt the game list in GameEx. Voila!

Incidentally, if anyone has ever tried to delete or rename a file in /System32 on Vista, you've encountered the fact that Microsoft decided to redefine the term "Administrator". Even Admin accounts cannot change these files - you have to jump through a bunch of hoops in the Properties tab of each file you want to affect. Brilliant...
