Hello everybody.

This is my very first post here and unfortunately it's about a possible major issue.

I was in the middle of install process and I chose to download and install every emulator compatible with GameEx.

Well, as the process went on my antivirus (Kaspersky Interney Security 8 with today's database update) found:

14/12/2008 19.56 http://www.tomspeirs.com/GameEx/Download/E...-tool1.exe//UPX SETUPWIZARD.EXE Denied: Worm.Win32.AutoRun.ovw

14/12/2008 19.57 http://www.tomspeirs.com/GameEx/Download/E...phne/par-io.dll SETUPWIZARD.EXE Denied: HEUR:Trojan.Win32.Generic

Are these false positives or should I trust my AV software?

Anyone else on the forum had the same problem?

I haven't heard of that antivirus software before. I would first check with another package to verify. I suggest Avast! as it's free and well respected (also does automatic updates automatically to stay up to date). If it also comes back with a warning, I would be concerned. Hopefully Tom didn't contract a virus on his dev machine!

I have just downloaded both Daphne and BFMulator from their respective homepages and the Kaspersky warning is still there.

I do believe it's a false positive. Although, I will check the zip archives using a different AV and let you know.

cheers

If downloaded from their respective homepages then I would believe them to be false positives. I wouldn't worry about them unless you downloaded from somewhere else. They're emulators we all use so we know them to be safe.

I am detecting viruses too but I think they are false positives. They are two AutoHotkey scripts for running the emu from a FE. These are typically packed by UPX which is a common method used to obfuscate viruses. It is probably just detecting the signature of UPX.
