  • Thanks to Headkzae now features an advanced emulator configuration tool which can be accessed from either of the configuration utilities. It makes configuring advanced emulator ini files a lot easier and user friendly. Thanks Headkaze
  • The advanced configuration utility has been improved slightly to allow more emulator configs and an improved file and folder browse
  • Fixes emulators not running in the screensaver when MAME enabled
  • Fixes issue with most played list
  • Fixes the broken music playlist feature, which is used for just playing a simple playlist throughout GameEx when the jukebox is disabled

Tom you may like to add a link to the Advanced Config Editor from the Start menu?

Anyway for now I just wanted to explain how to you can edit Advanced Configs using the new editor.

In the Setup Wizard you can go to the Emulator Setup area and on page 3 you will see a new [...] button next to "Advanced Config". Press this button to open up the Advanced Config Editor. You can edit the existing one or save a new one and it will be available for selection in the drop down list when you exit.

Nice work!

I have a question about the Game Info page caching that was updated a couple versions back. Well, I guess about 10 at this point since you are working so quickly these days! Anyway, I turned on the machine last night to let my sister-in-laws play around and it took several minutes to perform the caching the first time. After that it was very quick. I thought it cached once only the first time it was updated, but apparently it does this every time. I forgot to grab the log file, so I started the cab this morning, but it only took ~30 seconds to cache. Why did it take so long the first time and not the second time if nothing has changed? Does GameEx recache after every update? That would explain it since I had just updated AFAIK just before shutting down last time. Anyway, just looking for some understanding. Here's a log for the quick cache...

Its basically set to recache on "certain" updates. Once it sets the flag its done it wont do it again, unless I need another update to recache again then I add another new flag setting to check and set. I think Ive got it all working pretty good now, so that wont be likely.

Cheers.

I did want to do that but the Start Menu is crazy busy now. Im probably going to create sub folders for it in the next release, then Ill see what I can do.

Ok, cool. I was just a bit put off by having guests over and not realizing it would do that. It was a little embarrassing is all :(

No worries. I figured it was something that might still be in flux to some degree. That's the main reason I hadn't posted this yet. I was happy with the speed out of this last caching though! Thanks again :D

Yeah, with Frequencys help I was able to get it very quick. Looks like just a few seconds in your log.

So other than selecting the dir with the flv files in it for Mame snaps, is there something else I need to do because they are not playing.

flv files work and play fine in my other front end so I was not sure if I was missing something or this was a codec issue?

There seems to be a bug when I play DVD's if the preview video option is selected. I'm not able to access the menu for any dvd that is stored on my hard drive. Once I turn the preview dvd off the menu option works fine.

Flv files do work unfortunately it looks like Tom hasn't added support for that extension yet. If you rename the videos to .avi then they work. I'll shoot Tom off an e-mail and let him know to add support for the .flv extension.

:blink::blink::blink:

I hate to pull a Ben but wasn't that the whole point over in this other thread that you threw in my face?

At anyrate, thank you. Please keep us updated as this will certainly clean up some hard drive space for me.

Thanks Ben.

Not really as that was about answering the same question twice. As for the flv playback we can blame Tom for that...

Can now play FLV files (assuming FFDSHOW installed)

It should work properly next release though or you could just rename them all to .avi so technically it does work :P

BTW You never answered my 3 questions

So anyway when does your new cab arrive? Have you got your panel yet? Are you still waiting on the Electric Ice buttons to come back in stock at GGG?

At least I answered yours!

hahahahaha

Oh sorry, I guess I missed that.

Yes, I am STILL waiting on the Electric Ice buttons to come back in stock at GGG!!! Every time I hear from Randy it's this date or that date, it's a real headache. I wish there was somebody else to deal with but it seems he has more or less cornered the market on these. I mean at least most of the time he takes the time to update me on what is going on but mainly because it is now a public post over on BYOAC and I think he wants to keep up appearances. I realize he does a lot for the gaming community and all but not everyone is a fan. Guess I will leave it at that.

I was hoping to have my cab. by Thanksgiving, now by Christmas which I have now come to the terms with it's not going to happen. To be candid here the real shitty part about it all is Mameroom has all of my $$$ and so far all I have to show for it is a picture of the cut control panel with my overlay in place. I don't blame Scott at Mameroom at all and I guess I can't real blame Randy either. I think this was just a bad timing thing all the way around and now I get stuck with the bill and nothing to show for at the moment. In the end, I hope it is worth the wait and $$$ I have invested in it all.

So not to derail this topic too much. Here is the thread I started on BYOAC if you would like to comment.

What DVD Codecs are you using?

I've tried multible ones. They are Corel WinDVD, FFDSHOW (latest release), and the Vista Codecs. Each time I did an uninstall before installing the next one.

OK WindDVD codec is buggy. I may remove support for previewing DVDs due to this, but by default FFDSHOW does not decode MPEG2 so if you turn that on, I suspect everythin will work great. Can I See the log?

Sorry to bring this into this topic Tom, I posted this a few days ago in the other thread, and figured you missed it:

Just as a reminder, I'm working on a program to display artwork on a secondary monitor. Here we are talking about the Daphne.exe...

(Tempest @ Dec 8 2008, 03:15 PM) post_snapback.gifI stand Partially corrected, I can change it in Gameex.ini, but not in the Advanced Configuration program. I also checked for a duplicate entry, but didn't find any. How about a launch before, and after for Daphne?
To which I added:
One more question...

Are you sending {Enter} to Daphne?

My script works well from runitgame.bat, but doesn't work properly from Gameex.

Can I talk you into not sending keys to Daphne?

Are you tired of my bitching? :P

Let me know...

about sending keys I mean...

:)

I had previously mentioned about sending keys to mame even though the "Skip Disclaimers" option was off, you changed that for me, and Mame has been working great in my script. If you could change this for Daphne as well, I think it will work nicely as well...

Come to think of it, I sent you an E-mail asking if there was an easy way for a guy like me (Not too bright) to know what game is currently highlighted in the Gamelist. It's nice how HK can display the correct leds for a game in the list, if it's not too complicated, I think it would be nice to be able to display the artwork as well (with my script).

Thanks Tom, keep up the good work!

The easy way to find the selected item is in the registry. Its updated every few seconds.

Local_Machine\Software\GameEx\LCD

Cool, Thanks!

What about the bit about sending keys to Daphne? Or am I wrong, and your not?

Finally updated last night - Nice job on the Advanced Config Editor!

Brian - Have you seen this? Not much point in writing a program to help with mapping, it couldn't get much easier then this!

It would still be nice to have launch before/after, and an advanced config for Daphne though...
