Im going to update GameEx.com shortly with info on where to get the latest version.

The official download for the latest stable version is FFDSHOW tryouts.

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

Notict the latest build is novemeber, anything newer is a daily build and may not be stable.

Thanks Tom.

Can you do me a favor and when you update the site include the 64 bit version as well as the 32?

Hello,

Maybe this has been asked before but couldnt find it in the forum (i searched)

How do i update my gameex? do i just uninstall and then reinstall?

or

Do i just install on top of the gameex? or is there a menu inside gameex to update?

Pretty simple question that i couldnt find in the FAQ

I have only been able to test on certain hardware, but Videos load pretty much instantly for me, even with FFDSHOW blasting it with post processing and resizing everything to crazy proportions.

Can you post your full log. What video card and drivers are you using, although i woudlnt think it would effect it.

Hi Tom,

I've done some more testing, and was very surprised to find out that ffdshow seems to make no difference. I removed it from my system completely, rebooted and gameex will still show the videos, and still pauses for about 8 to 10 seconds every time. Also the mouse dissapears during that pause, and the system seems to lock.

It's an ATI Radeon 9600, very generic card. Was bundled with Doom 3. My CPU is a pre SSE3 P4 though. Did you use anything SSE3 specific in the 9.71 build?

Thanks for taking a look at this for me. I've tried as many video formats as possible with windows media player and the new ffdshow. No problems there at all. This seems to only crop up on the GameEx GUI.

In which case it sounds like a codec issue. GameEx is obviously not using FFDSHOW but some other codecs which are most likely causing this issue by the sound of it.

Re-Installed ffdshow.

I tried running GameEx in a window. I notice that when I move over a menu selection with a video splash that the FFDshow icon appears after 5-8 seconds in the taskbar. But the second I move down to a .JPG/.PNG splash that it instantly dissapears and has to reload when I move back over a video splash. Didn't ffdshow use to stay resident in memory as long as GameEx was running?

Its working how it should. I still think its a codec issue. Only way to be sure would be to remove all codecs from your system, and often that require a reinstall of windows unfortunatly.

Although FFDSHOW is showing, there may be other bad codecs it could be using, like for audio or AVI splitter.

I would tend to agree at this stage. I tried removing all media processing installs from my add/remove (except Direct X stuff), and the problem still persists. I certainly have played with many codec packs over the years, and unfortunately have probably left traces of something on here that is wrestling with ffdshow for control over the video.

I'll keep watching the forums for the next couple of days.

Thanx for the help

Just because you install the FFDSHOW codec doesn't mean that's what Windows is using. If you have previously installed other codecs, they might still be the ones that are being used. Like others have said, the only way to be positive that the FFDSHOW pack is being used is to have it as the only set installed. It's possible to use certain utilities to change it, but codecs are a challenging beast! If you've previously tried a number of packs, you might just be better off reinstalling Windows (like Toms suggested).

Reinstalation is for quitters. Lol.

What I'm trying to understand is why this just started after the 9.71 (or another very recent) update. I havn't touched anything codec related on this computer for over a year. GameEx performed beautifully with the video splashes until very recently.

The video libraries were changed/updated in this release, as per this topic. ie they now work in a different way. Unfortunatly that causes a problem with your particular setup.

Actually I tend to think not reinstalling is for people who dont know when to quit ;)

The 64-bit version is no good with GameEx as GameEx is a 32 bit app.

I am using ffdshow_rev2014_20080617_x64.exe right now and have been for months.

Tom,

I'm using 9.62, so if this has already been corrected, please accept my apologies....

It appears to me that it is impossible to change the name of Daphne.exe. I have tried it both by using the Advanced Configuration Program, and by editing GameEx.ini. I'm assuming that this is a bug?

May ask why you are trying to change the name of the .exe and are you just trying to do this in the menus or the actual .exe?

Now that GameEx works correctly with later versions of FFDShow, perhaps it would just be better to place a link to where to download the latest versions, rather than host the files locally (and maybe VCP also)?

Have played with both the latest ffdshow, and Vista codec pack, and can confirm HK's post. There really is nothing to choose between the two now as both work perfectly. Perhaps the Vista codec pack is a slightly better option through the omission of the 2 system bar icons that are activated on FFDShow launch.

Excellent work as always Tom.. 5 stars and perhaps even so far as to reward you with a nice gold moon. ;) (Aaargh! Schooldays flashbacks)

Yes Tempest, Why oh, Why oh (spells YOYO) are you changing names?

It is the start of a slippery slope of name changing that could only end in the devistation of calling yourself "Asteroids"...

All right you two!

This is just a continuation of my obsession with renaming everything, remember the script I wrote to rename the cat, and other items around the house? Or, maybe it just chaps my ass that Tom has included a place to enter the Daphne.exe, but it can't be changed! :P

I'm writing a script to run in place of Daphne (Daphne will be called from within the script) that I would like to be able to name the script something other than Daphne, and unless I can change the Daphne.exe, it looks like my script will be stuck with the name "Daphne"

Lauchbefore/after options for Daphne would be even better... Daphne doesn't work with the Mame Launchbefore/after, Does it?

Hey Flash, how does it work with the HD Emumovies? Have not had a chance to test here.

Hey Tom,

The HD (HQ) emumovies vids work perfectly for me. Also tried a Future pinball at 60fps 800x600 and it did not drop a frame. All of xvid, avi, divx work fine under FFDShow latest now.

I used to have problems with the xvid fp vids under the older FFDShow where they played the video back at half the frame rate but the sound matched (wierd), but as i say - 100%

I'm having problems when I play dvd's after I updated gameEx to the latest version. First, the audio has an echo effect. I have tried either an external windvd and I have used the built in one with the same out come. Second, it seems I had to change my path location for dvd's from [DVD]\video_ts to [DVD]. Third it seems the dvd menu does not work any more. It appears like the dvd video has been re-render of some kind with the new version. Please let me know if you see something on my end that I am doing wrong. I didn't change any settings since running the previous version.

thanks.

So what about this Tom, you seemed to have missed or skipped right over it.

I am using the 64 bit version already and have been ever since I installed Game Ex. Why do you say it does not work with the 64 bit version of ffdshow?

There are few situations where you will be using the 64-bit version of ffdshow and you may have noticed the download is marked as "experimental" on sourceforge. ffdshow is a filter that supports many different video formats but there may be other filters already installed on your PC. I would recommend you uninstall the 64-bit version and install something like the Vista Codec pack which includes ffdshow. Or install the 32-bit version of ffdshow. I like the Vista Codec pack because it includes extra filters for some formats that ffdshow doesn't support. There is no point in installing 64-bit codecs unless you have 64-bit software to use them.

Agreed. I would like to launch an xpadder profile for Daphne, but I don't have that option. Since I haven't gotten around to creating a wrapper, Daphne sits disabled. If I could just launch it like any other emulator, I would be able to die on the bridge repeatedly just like everyone else. ;)
