When I enable the Use Bezel for Vertical Games in GameEx the problem I have is that some of my vertical games already have bezels and the GameEx one overwrites the one that I have already. Is there a way to filter the games that already have bezels so this doesn't happen?

Look Here

And Here

Or just look it up in the search topic.

There is already a lot of help out there on this that helped me on this same issue.

I read those post and my problem is still the same! GameEx bezel is displaying over bezels that are in the mame artwork directory. I looked in the artworkgameex and there is nothing in that directory and I copied my artwork files to that directory and still not working.

Make a copy of your gameex.ini. Edit the original (look for bezel and version) The choice is either 1 or 2.

Change that and see of it fixes you up.

Don't forget to make the copy incase you mess something up.

It's set at 2 so I should change it to 1 you say.

Look in your mame folder and see if there is a artworkgameex folder in there.

If there is delete this folder or move it out of the mame folder.

Also in the advanced config. in the mame settings, change the use bezels to a blank setting.

I have read that this is automatically set to use bezels as default and does not need to be set.

At least this worked for me.

Nope didn't work! :(

I give up must be a bug in GameEx because I tried every which way and it keeps displaying GameEx bezel when I want it to display the bezels that I have for the game and only display GameEx bezel for the ones I don't have a bezel for.

The artworkgameex directory is blank nothing in it ... I even copied the bezels I have in that directory and didn't work. I have Advanced Config pointing the artwork folder to a different MAME version and it still doesn't work. So I have to keep Don't Use Bezel selected to display my artwork. Such a shame as it would have been kool to use this option if it worked like it says.

Run a game that has the bezel displayed wrong. Then exit GameEx and check out the "Run Last Game.bat" file in the GameEx Start folder. Post the contents of that file here and perhaps we can see what's going on.

....No need to bother wasting time with this guys. The thread referenced near the beginning of this thread went on for some bit -- with no resolution reached because actually this is how Gameex is supposed to behave.

When the vertical bezel option is turned on, Gameex's vertical bezel will be used -- regardless of whether there is already a mame bezel present or not.

This is in fact how Gameex is supposed to behave (I don't think it should behave this way though). If you want to see the regular mame artwork in vertical games, you have to turn off the Gameex bezels.

No, it shouldn't behave this way if you don't want it to. What I mean is that if you want to use the GameEx bezel, it should do that. If you want to use your own bezels, that should work fine. If you want to use the GameEx bezel for vertical games, then that's what the setting is for. What I don't remember is what happens when you have artwork for a vertical game with the GameEx bezel turned on. I don't know if GameEx will use the existing bezel if it exists then move on to the GameEx one if it doesn't.

Krakerman-

Look at the command that GameEx is sending. It's telling MAME to look in the 'artworkgameex' directory for your bezel art. That's where GameEx generates the bezel when you have that feature turned on. If you want to see the MAME artwork instead, you would want to turn off that feature AFAIK.

I don't use the bezel feature, but my guess would be to:

1) turn off the feature

2) delete the 'artworkgameex' directory

3) check your paths in mame.ini

4) run a game to see that the bezel shows

5) if you want to use the GameEx bezel for vertical games that don't have artwork, turn on the feature in GameEx

6) verify that things are working as you expect

If you have any problems, post here and we'll see what can be done.
