It's working brilliantly! I put it in the Launch Before instead of the Also Launch.

Frequency, do you know of a way of fixing that "NES header illegal" issue (recently posted)? On a lot of games, this warning pops up and you have to click YES (or press Y). However, in gameex that's impossible and all that happens is I see a black screen. The games are playable but you have to click YES.

Have you come across this before?

Frequecy can create a wrapper to load the game and wait for the msg box to appear then send a simulated click to yes.

I use nestopia personally and I dont have these issues. Do you think this is a more compatable emulator?

I don't know really. I just picked VirtuaNES first and ran with it. It seemed easy to use. The main issues are the bar appearing at the top when exiting (which has now been fixed), and now the "NES header illegal" thingy.

If I changed now, Frequency would need to do another script for Nestopia (for the exit thing). Not sure if he would do that

It's weired because some of the roms are (!) which means they are working fully, so don't understand this NES header illegal silliness.

what do you think Brian? is it worth changing to nestopia or can frequency fix this?

:P

Well I like nestopia and dont have any exiting issues. I would download it and change your setup an new emulator in gameex to test it. Frequency can fix it. I cannot say he will.

If you l can take a look at it. Ill have to read this whole thread to find out exactly what your exiting issues are and what your trying to accomplish.

There is no doubt in my mind it cant get going how you would like it to.

The issue is this - when I exit the nes emu in gameex, for a second, i see the menu bar at the top, and I really hate that. Frequency fixed it with this exit script.

Nestopia has this issue too though doesn't it?

I also use nestopia. Nestopia IMO is a better emulator. To hide the OS like clair is wanting then I would use mednafen or use nestopia and use the trick below. To each his/her own though. But yeah! A wrapper for virtuanes would be a simple fix for this.

Nestopia shows the menu bar upon exit no matter what exit method it uses. So a wrapper in my experience won't work to hide the menu bar unless I maybe hide the window or set a tranparency to it. One solution was brought up before but can't remember who to give credit to. The solution was to change the menu bar color to black. Note that doing this will still show a black strip for a brief moment upon exit.

Options >>> Preferences... >>> Fullscreen Menu Color >>> Click Edit.. >>> Change to black.

Wont ALT+f4 just close the emu without showing the menu bar? If so cant ESC be mapped to ALT+f4 for this emu?

Im not in front of my dev pc so I cant test it.

It still shows no matter what exit method it uses as i mentioned before. Whether it be Alt+F4 or Alt+X. So a simple remapping of keys won't work in this situation to hide the menu bar.

Hmmmm.....I wonder if a program like resource hacker can remove the menu bar?

I don't believe so. A menu bar works differently than an icon or image. The menu bar is imbeded in the coding so won't work as far as I know.

Well nestopia is open source. Im sure it can be modified. But your suggestion about making the bar black is probably easiest.

I'm sure it can but that does us no good unless we have someone to do it for us cuz I know I sure can't do it. ;)

But to go with nestopia then yes the black bar is easiest.

With virtuanes then a wrapper would be required to give flawless results in GameEx. NES is over emulated IMO anyways. There's so many emulators out there. I'm sure there's plenty that will give us the results clair is after other than mednafen.

clair! Can you list a game that does this (the "NES header illegal" popup message) so I can look into it? Also the naming convention if you have a valid romset (i.e. No-Intro, Goodtools, TOSEC, etc.)

Thanks for the black menu bar idea fRequEnCy

I hadn't noticed this with nestopia until clair mentioned it, spent ages last night trying to right a script for nestopia before realising it doesn't matter how you exit, it'll all ways briefly show the menu.

Black menu on my black desktop works like a charm though :)

Hi. I don't really understand the romset thing to be honest. Don't know what romset I have.

One of the games that does the Nes Illegal thing is "Adventure Island Classic (!) E.

Hope that helps.

I can get it to work on its own but not through gameex. Is there a cfg or setup guide?

A config doesn't offer much as it's a simple command line.

Nestopia.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

What kind of issues you having with it?

Hi frequency. I got it working but now when I load any game up, UP and DOWN don't work. Every other key does, just not up and down - i've only tested this on the start page when you can choose 1 player or 2 player. I can't choose 2 player, it just won't move down and I've mapped it in Input.

And you're sure that particular game doesn't require you to press Select to move down the menu in the game?

LOL. K. If not then zip up your nestopia.xml and upload it here so I can have a look-see. ;)
