What timing issue are you referring to? From what I have just read the issue is because of the strange format turbo cd games are in and there not supported 100% with virtual clone drive. So what can I do? Obviously it does not work 100%, and you need to use daemon tools.

The updated exe adds a pause when using the gameex iso support, not for anything else.

He means when using daemon tools and using zip support Tom! When an Image is zipped, sometimes it doesn't mount. Seems like it tries to mount before the file is completely unzipped so it errors out. I still feel it has to do with that strange format of the games as you mentioned cuz I haven't experienced it with any other emulators.

I posted in the other thread. I just looked I see no zip timing issue in GameEx. It even already has a delay after unzipping which it shouldnt need. Obviously this particular system calls for a wrapper, to add some delays.

EDIT: Basically I agree with you Frequency, its this particualr system rather than anything else.

I agree. This emulator is a PITA. It's the only one I've encountered problems with. Wrapper would be the way to go. Or even the best solution would be to keep images unzipped! ;) . It just makes more sense as far as speed and no chance of errors. Also doesn't save much space when zipping an image anyways.

Well I really dont understand why to keep the ISO's zipped. It creates alot of overhead and doesnt save alot of space. Perhaps look into converting to MD5 its a compressed ISO format and is fairly common.

Sorry guys that are rooting for this. Id just wait a few months and upgrade the a new harddrive. They are very cheap and hold alot of data.

Thanks, I guess the pros are agreed on this one :)

Like I said its just a shame this system has issues, as I was really trying to simplify the iso support and issues like this by doing what I did. Its kind of put a bit of negative on what a great new addition this is to GameEx.

For me personally whenever I get anyything in ISO format, I extract the contents. I pretty much never use mounting tools.

Works great on other emulators Tom! So it's still a positive thing on my end. ;)

It's just this emulator which really is tailored to running actual disc's instead of images anyways.

Tom I love the iso support. I havent tried it yet but look forward to updating some configs. I made a new thread about posting troublesome emulators. I know emus that load ISO's are generally more diffacult to get going.

Thanks for the great feature and dont burn yourself out on this one. GX is doing exactly what its supposed to in my opnion.

Well for this particular system that won't work since you've already seen how it errors out when reading this disc. So unfortunately this is just one of those things. Just a fluke.

To all you users out there! Plain and simple! Unzip images and mount via daemon tools using the cue. It's the way to go. ;)

And im quite aware this is now going to turn into a roms in folders request ;)

In my defence I have been thinking about how to implement it :)

Do a folder scan and create a xml DB of file name and locations based on the rom filter.

When a rom is launched use the DB to fill in the command.

Probably alot of work. I cant see a way to do it on the fly

Maybe the way to approach the roms in folders, is actually better being like the zip support. Have a setting to scan only folders, and treat each folder the same way GameEx treats zips but without actually unzipping anything.

Just use the map file as I mentioned before since it's already a format used by GameEx. Then just grab everything on the left side of the "|" delimiter instead of what's between the "\" and "|".

C:\NES\ROMS\Game Name.zip|Game Name

It may be a quick solution.

Id say go for it.

Please don't implement Roms in folders, or at the very least, have it turn-on-and-off-able (© ardman studios).

Not only would unzipped have to be moved to temp (if it is not already), but I keep my rom folders in this fashion,

<Romfolder>/all my roms that work

<Romfolder>/Nonworking

<Romfolder>/To Test

This is particually helpfull for emu's like dreamcast and Saturn where emu is a bit hit-and-miss. If I keep the nonworking roms/iso's in a nestled folder then it is very easy to check and maintain them upon a new emulator release.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but it is much better than keeping them all in the same directory and playing russian roulette everytime you launch a game from gameex.

Here are some of my findings...

Unzipping my PC Engine/ Turbo CD collection increased it size by near 100 gigs. =[

Have them unzip does not fix the problem of the loading. Sometimes I will have to load a game 3 times before it takes in Daemon tools. The only thing unzipping them did was take up more space and speed up the process bewteen loading failures.

I am testing right now with the increased pause Game Ex version here and it does not help. This is a timing issue between the time it takes Daemon tools to load the iso and then for Magic Engine to launch I have tested this in a command prompt and can get it to work everytime if I wait a few seconds between the time it takes the iso to load and then loading Magic Engine.

Is there no way to increase the pause between the time it takes the iso to load and running Magic Engine?

I have an idea Visitor Q try putting 5000 in "Wait Before Keys" to wait for 5 seconds. I'm not sure if you have to have anything in "Keys To Send" or not but that should give you the delay you need.

Posted

I don't have anything in the keys to send box.

I put 5000 in the wait before but it seems to go as fast as always, do I have to have something in the other box in order for this to work?

It's crazy, if it does not load the first time by the third time I try and load it, it almost always works.

I am not sure but the way I am reading this is, the command is sent so many seconds after the emulator is loaded ie to make it full screen etc..

Maybe I am wrong but I don't think this is what I am looking for...

ps. I tried what you suggested and it does not work but thank you for trying.

VisitorQ: Your probably right in that it sends it after the app has launched sorry my bad.

Here's another way, download the attached sleep.zip and place sleep.exe in your Windows\System32 folder.

Next add sleep 5 to your batch file or if your using LaunchBefore use it like so

LaunchBefore="C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"[RomPath]\[RomFile]";Sleep 5

I have not tested this so you may need to use a batch file instead. If you need a batch file, use it like so create MountImage.bat and add

@ECHO OFF
"C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"%1"
sleep 5

Place that in the GameEx folder and LaunchBefore would look like this

LaunchBefore=MountImage.bat [RomPath]\[RomFile]

sleep.zip

The first way does not work, says error in command line. The second way I am not 100% sure on, what is the exact launch before?

MountImage.bat [RomPath]\[RomFile]

"MountImage.bat [RomPath]\[RomFile]"

MountImage.bat "[RomPath]\[RomFile]"

I did update the LaunchBefore line a bit not sure if it will make a difference or not.

As for the batch method it should work as I posted it. Did you try it?

Can you post the contents of the BATS perhaps I can write an SHK script to wait then run the comands.

How long does it need to wait?
