Just can't figure out how to set up the consoles

I've read through as many tutorials as I can find, I've set it up several times; but I just can not get my consoles to work. I gave up for a long time, but now that I've enjoyed my arcade for a while I want to add these features. I got the emulator for N64 to work fine, but I can't get any for NES or any others to load the game. Is there a step-by-step guide available to get it set up using VirtuaNES? Any others?

I set up the commands, all the files, everything is correct....but when it goes to select a game it just doesn't click...

If you have it working outide Gameex, Post Your Config.

Thank you for that link Tempest. Currently all the controls work and the emulator is programmed, works fine by itself. GameEx boots and shows the game list, when I select the game list the screen goes black until I escape out of it. I have a N64 emulator running fine, but I can't notice any differences except for the fact that N64 has the picture of the console on the emulator select screen, for some reason I dont see the NES console picture anymore. If using virtuanes as your NES emulator then you command-line should be as follows:

virtuanes.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

[ROMPATH] = Path to the rom you wanna run

[ROMFILE] = Name of the rom with extension that you wanna run

I looked in the VirtuaNES folder, but the emulator file is NES.exe; should I leave that as is?

hmmmm then try:

NES.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

That did it!! Thank you so much! :)

So now that this is working, any idea of how to bring back the Nintendo Console picture? not a huge deal as I have functionality at this point, but just wondering if there is a quick fix with what you see in the log.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Well depending on your theme it may have a different name. Try browsing the MEDIA\LOGOS folder in the theme folder your using and look for the name of the nes image if there is one.

Are you refering to this?

StartPageLogo=[Console] Nintendo NES

The Logos are in:

C:\Program Files\GameEx\THEMES\Name of theme you are using\MEDIA\LOGOS

As long as the name of the image matches "[Console] Nintendo NES" It will show up, you can use AVI's too.

Emumovies.com has old commercials that are interesting. Most of the stuff there is free, check it out.

Same answer! You just went more into detail. I don't think it's only your connection that is slow. LOL. :P

You guys are awesome! Everything works great now, and I've thrown up a couple of extra emulators now....amazing how that one line opens SO many doors for my cab!

Now I'm just being greedy.......When I want to back out of a MAME game I programmed a button on my joysticks to back me out, for NES/Sega/et cetera I have to lift the lid and hit escape; works fine but I figure since my wish list of improvements is coming true why not ask if there is a way to do this on emulated games! :P

You can do almost anything in GameEx...

Take a look at the Advanced Configs:

You select an Advanced Config in your emulator setup, and then you can edit it.

These are the lines you are interested in:

  Quote
# This is an advanced emulator configuration file. It does things such as allow keyboard only emulators to be operated by a gamepad, wait for additional processes to exit and map keys. If this file is used it overrides the MAPKeys setting for the emulator.

[GENERAL]

# Enabled. Use this.

Enabled=True

[GAMEPADEXIT]

#MAP Gamepad controls to exit and make controls exit process

MapGamePadExit=True

#Flag the controls that exit a game by placing True next to each control. To not use the control as part of the combination use a 0

You just put true next to the buttons you want to use. In the Example above, you would use a combination of buttons 4-6.

Some of the features are registered features only, but if you read the text, it pretty much tells you what to do.

Everything looks good on this end. Only thing is that it might be the way you set up ZSNES graphics. So try changing this setting for now.

Currently you have:

ShowDesktop=False

Change to:

ShowDesktop=True

Okay I've focused on this one for a day now, hoping I could learn to crack it myself; but nothing appears to work for me. This is for Playstation using ePSXe. It loads the emulator, but when it is time to load the ROM it just keeps loading and does not go to the game.

Are these correct (marked in red)?

You have rompath set to:

G:\PSX Unzipeed\Games

Looks like you have unzipped misspelled.

Also your working path. Is this where your emulator is?

G:\PSX Unzipped\ePSXe

And last. You're using a map file. Did you create this yourself and is it using the correct names of your roms? Cuz if not, it will pass those to the command line. If they are wrong then your games simply won't load.

The Unzipped Typo I missed when typing it on the laptop to post, so that's okay. The Mapping was put in there automatically, I took that out--but the result is the same....loads the emulator, but can not bring up the game.

Change Command Line to:

ePSXe.exe -nogui -loadbin "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

LOL. Good deal! Have fun! Let us know if you run into other problems with any other emulators.

Well, everything is working great but as I start unzipping new roms into the folder and they're not showing on GameEx....they load fine and are the same file types, is there a way to refresh the game list?

Game Lists should refresh automatically in exception to MAME when you have to update manually. Are you restarting GameEx to refresh the list?

Yeah, I even tried completely rebooting the computer...it is really weird. It has the original games, I may just save the configuration, delete it...then try creating a new if I need to
