Hey everyone. I just recently read about some folks who have built a pc out of a gutted NES console. I know, I know, late to the draw.

I was just curious if anyone here has attempted it a little more recently than four years ago and could maybe talk about the pratfalls or the specs of what they may use to do such a thing.

And honestly, I can't imagine running anything but GameEx as a frontend on it, so I figured this would be a good place to ask really.

Actually its alot easier now (I think). Formfactors are getting even smaller and chips are getting even faster.

The main question is"what do I want to be able to run on this rig?" I mean you can get fanless cpu on some nano itx motherboards. But you scarfice speed. If a 1 ghz is all you need. Maybe only emulating a nes on it would be sufficent. However MAME will suffer as most other apps would. So your stuck with maybe a mini itx. Still you may scarafice a fancy graphics card.

Personally Id stick to emulating NES on it. Have it shelled into gameex and use the real nes controllers. Theres a few good methods on doing this and ive actually hacked a nes gamepad to work with my pc.. Its the bomb.

parts (power supply.. Damn tiny uses external power adaper. : http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/sc.8/category...CFQ8QagodGwxmsA

If money isnt an option look at this MB.. 1 ghz and is only 3.94 inches X 2.83 Inches or 100mm x 72mm you can fin this and other like it here.

So after you picked up the peices get everything installed outside the NES load windows your stuff. Get it autobooting and working flawlessly.

Then shove it up the Nes's ass... JK

Make sure you do the reasearch on what controllers you want (or if you want to stay original you can get these and keep the same original interface.

Lots of reading but a great project.

Excellent! Thanks for all the info man. I appreciate that. Those links are very helpful. I'm hoping to have this sucker done by right around New Years, so once I do I'll probably post some pics up of the process too.

Thanks again!
