Hi Tom.

Firstly let me thank you for an awesome front end! I have only recently seen the light. I have been using Mame for a long time now but only just started using GameEx.

I am not sure if my question should be a feature request or if I am missing something in the jukebox section.....

Let me start with saying that the way I sort my music is a folder for Artist and underneath that I have a folder for each album. I am a "neat freak" when it comes to the accuracy of my ID3 tags so each album always has the album tag filled in identically to ther songs on the same album.

Now for the main part of my question... when using the jukebox feature in GamEx I find that my albums that have been ripped to MP3 don't show up nicely in the various sorting lists whereas the albums ripped with WMA do.

The main problem occurs when using the "sort by album" feature. The albums ripped with WMA show only one entry for each album whereas albums ripped with MP3 displays each song on the album with the album name in this list. This makes it very hard to find a specific album as this sorting issue causes me to have over 10,000 items appearing on the "sort by album" screen.

Is there a setting I am missing, or is this a limitation of how Windows is using the ID3 tags to sort the items? It would be really good if it would just list one entry for each MP3 ripped album (like it does for WMA ripped albums).

Please forgive me if this is just due to my ignorance.

Thanks again for the awesome product.

Duwane

i had this on mine.

what id did was go to windows media player

i deleted everything..... playing history the lot

i rip with wmp, and have each album in a folder with all info and song names, they are also done with high bitrate

i then went into gameex, and in the dropdown of playlist names, i chose the option in the menu, relevent to wmp saying high bitrate media in my library.

each album is in my library in wmp.

i then get an album list, just albums

also there is another way. you can go to gameex, go to jukebox

in jukebox go to the last choice in menu (memory slipped)

here you can choose albums too

Thanks minus4

I figured out since my first post that it gets the track and album details from the Windows Media Player Media Library and have emptied the entire library (as you mentioned) and recreated it and this made no difference either. It appears that some MP3 albums do display correctly but most donâ??t on the â??by albumâ? sort. I will try again tonight using the info you have supplied when I get home (at work at the moment).

Tom would it not be better to let GameEx generate its own media library against the users music folders (can maybe be done from the config utility?). Or at least give the choice of using the Windows media library info or let GameEx generate its own. Then there is no need to rely on the Media Player library which seems to have a few accuracy issues (biased to WMA format as it is a Microsoft Developed format!)?

This may not be practical, but at least you could then allow better control of how things are displayed, sorted, etc.

Not that it makes a difference, but I forgot to mention before that I am running Windows Media player 10 on XP SP2. I have also installed GameEx 5.09 and this made no difference.

Did some more testing. It looks like this may still be a GameEx sorting issue as the albums that are showing seperate songs in the "By album" sort in GameEx Jukebox do show correctly as one single album in my Windows Media Player Library.

This may be a red herring, but all of the albums not displaying correctly in the Jukebox are Various artitst albums (i.e. each song has a different Artist). Could this be related to the sorting issue?

This is normal behaviour for GameEx. ie its supposed to do that., and not an issue It lists seperate albums for seperate artists. It did not used to do this, it was a feature I added. I'll add an option not to do that, next release or so.

Tom.
