Hi,

This is just a mention of a website I have been working on.

This is in the Very early stages and I could do with all the help I can get to 'expand it'

the website is designed around a gallery that I hope to become a repository for retro computer and console images. There are not many on there at the moment but this will be expanding. I am picking up some more "Junk" (as the wife calls it) tomorrow night with the hope of getting some time to take photographs, crop, trim, and post.

I have posted on here requesting some images from anyone with systems that I have not got, and a couple of people showed interest in supporting by uploading pictures, nothing has come of that :( But, perhaps with a specific repository (with HUGE storage space), then this may make the idea more appealing.

Just think how handy these images would be for GameEx icons, graphics, and theme creation.

It will expand even without outside support in various areas, but support (even just a post on the forum - why did i add one? ) would be a nice boost to persevere with this...

Thanks all..

(have blocked anyone with the name Tempest - don't want fat peanut munchers on there! )

you actually take photo's of computers when there are millions on google images  ,

you need some sort of hook on the website ,like the ability to download all screenshots of roms in cirtain named formats,

it still needs a lot of work but it looks ok for an early stage website,

keep us informed

If you want the images you find on google - google it!

Try and find a Camputers Lynx, Laser 200, MTX 512, etc..

Now try and find them at 1500 pixels across or bigger?

Lynx 745x475

Laser 200 350x167

MTX 512 640x480

That is the problem with Google and the web in general - there are no hi-res pictures of a lot of these computers/consoles. I certainly don't want a little blurry 380x210 image. I want large images that I can resize to use for whatever I wish.

That is why the website is there!

If you want screenshots of roms or videos - Emumovies is great!

I almost didn't join because of the agreement:

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually-oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also inappropriate to this forum.

What's the point if I can't harass you in two forums?

BTW: You may have blocked Tempest, but you should have blocked my IP instead! :P

As if I would have banned you :)

If the forum only contains the ramblings of a mad fool, that is fine with me :)

I'll check it out more when I'm not limited to 64k again, my Internets is so sloowwwww :(

What happened to your internet? Possoms in the server? Roos jumping on the line? ;)

I have the same problem at work, I have to use my mobile as a modem.. can get pretty slow at times. Clicking "allgame" can hang GXDBM for ages.. :( Gets there in the end (20-30 secs).

Oh well!

I have been collecting since the 80's really...

Some of them were expensive e-bay purchases (boxed Amiga A1000 - £380gbp) and some were just luck (portable CDI system - £25)

The collection is forever growing.

Looking for a Pippin and X68000 (normal or Pro)... Anyone? :)

I am pick up a load that I had in storage tonight, so I may have a bit of fun... Wish there was some way to connect them to my plasma though :(

Hey flash,

Was it you who wanted a photo of the Binatone games system?

Yes, that would be great if you have one...

Either upload it here or at the site itself? The site would be best if that is ok?

Cheers!

TOM: yeah, I do remember seeing/reading about an adaptor to convert the outputs of several systems. Cannot for the life of me remember where?

I have got a Microvitec Cub which should cover a few of my options, It was not just for the bbc. They were actually great little rgb monitors in their day.

Just a suggestion for your site (too lazy right now to create a forum account ATM). I know you know what each image is and Tempest will lie and say he does too ;). But, for the rest of us who don't know the difference between an MTX and a Channel F from the image, perhaps you could add either a title for each image or text that pops up on hover that says what system it is.

Looks like a great start though!

If you hold the mouse over an image, then it will pop up what the image is (system name). if you click on an image, there is a description field that has info on the picture and sometimes a wiki link.

Thanks for your input, I never thought that people may want to browse to find stuff rather than just using it to find an image of a system they wanted.. Perhaps I may have to start adding a bit more info?

Hey flash. I think you're doing a good job. People don't realize how hard it is to start something up and have it be what they want. I give ya credit! You're doing something for the community and for FREE! So keep it up!

Thanks mate... It certainly will remain free as well.

Just trying to get google to index the images, thought it may help people locate them.

I did hover over the images, but nothing seemed to pop up for me. I saw that when you went to the image it said what it was, though. I was just thinking that if I were perusing the gallery and saw something for the first time then it would be cool to be able to see the name prior to clicking on it. My connection is fast, but other people might have to wait a minute since these are really nice hi-res images!

Anyway, I'm impressed! I hope my suggestion didn't come across as anything other than that. I would offer up a picture of my TI-99/4A, but I'm sure that you don't already have one! I do have a few games I could take photos of though (Alpiner, Hunt the Wumpus, Parsec, Football, Magic Numbers (I think), maybe a couple more). I'm sure the boxes are long gone though...

Thanks BK, It is nice to have some remarks about the site. I have no idea why the pop up text is failing to do so? I will look into that. Perhaps I will add a small text of the image description to display under the image (the same text as the popup?). That should not be too hard to paste into the php. Not sure how it will affect the other views though as it is all template based and a modification to one affects others. I will have a play tomorrow on a fresh head (is there such a thing?)

A quality picture of a TI would be GREAT. I have 4 of them and mine all have scratches on them :( Whose bloody stupid idea was it to put brushed metal on them?

Just got another load of stuff from storage tonight. About 3-4 more trips to go....

Here is some pics of what I found :)

I will get round to doing the picture proper like gov, got to buy a mini-studio that is all white and 2 soft-lights.

I just figured out why I can't see the hover text. I'm using Firefox where it doesn't work. If I load up IE, it works fine. Damn M$...

Btw, you have GameGear listed as a console not a handheld.

Silly me - thanks for pointing that out...

My Digital SLR died last night :(

Went out today and bought a 14mp Pentax :)

Gonna have a good play now - HUGE images....

Very pleased to see things like the Lynx (computer) and Laser. I do remember seeing those in radio rentals or the like when I was really young. My buddy had the sharp, and we're talking Junior school buddy here! But do you have the C64 console? Didnt see an Oric there either? I also seem to recall there was a "console" based spectrum that took carts. Bet you dont have one of those!

The console bit of the Spectrum was the Interface 1, plugged into the spectrum to enable a selection of carts to be played.

I have TONS to add, you can see some stuff in the images with piles of stuff. In there is an Oric-1 and an Oric Atmos. :) I will get them done soon.

have c64, c65, vic 20, and pet to dd at some point, oh - and the sx64!

Thanks for your interes tom. Have just bought a 14.6 megapixel Pentax SLR to try and get some really nice pics. Gotta pic up the new lens next week (£899), and then it is photo taking time again...
