Wow, what a great idea! I love it. You can now see the difference between all of the systems right in front of you.

Only one question... how does it work? I see some games that I know I have ROMs for that are not link to other systems.

BTW... I'm up and running again. I re-coded most of my videos and it's all working very well now. With this new feature, it's even better.

Thanks for all the help and great work!

It relies on 2 things.

1) complete databases. (still very much a WIP)

2) roms to be named in the fashion of Tosec/no-intro/goodname (see - we told you to stick with them ;) )

As time goes on, more and more results will match as the system is expanded.

Yes... Mom... I know... ;)

So in my 'Good Name' column, I would need to match the names? For my Inty database, I named all the Imagic roms like this

Imagic - Nova Blast

Imagic - Atlantis

Activision - Pitfall!

Activision - River Raid .. .etc

So I would need to match these in the Atari database, or is there another column that needs to be matched? I can always revert, more work, but worth it.

I tried to add another column to the Inty database, just for kicks. Tosec... but nothing happened. Do any of the columns link the files specifically?

You cannot just add columns to any of the databases and expect them to work. GameEx poll specifics and will ignore the rest or even not work at all.

The names of the roms must match across ALL db's in ALL systems.

If you want my advice (and you really do :) ), run a rom manager and take all your roms back to correct naming conventions (either of the 3 formats is fine).

All the completed DB's will then work + link with mame.

The db's are designed in such a way to enable seemless use of this functon (and perhaps others).

Regarding your love of renaming the roms, <publisher> - <Game>, don't!

In gameex just list the games by publisher and the work is done for you? You can browse by which company did what, so you could pick perhaps just Imagic and see a list of games attributed to them only. It would be nice to have this function for Developer also, which is something (good god) that I am looking in to adding to all the db's (bugger)...

So - back up your roms and rename the using clrmamepro or such, use the latest db's and play (Select "use Database names") - you won't wanna go back, and if you do - just put your db's back and your orignal roms..

Trust me - I'm a Doctor :)

Hey Flash... I can't remember...Do the db's make the correct names of the games show up in Gameex? I bet they do.... Maybe I should update, and start using the DB's? :P

Yes they do. There is an option in the emu setup "use Database name". This will show the correct name of any matched rom. The dat names have several faults in them which are corrected by the databases. A good example is "Decathlon" and "The Activision Decathlon". The second one being correct (check the game cover). I have worked DAMN hard to try and make sure that all the roms are displayed as originally intended by the publisher and not by the name that the tosec (or others) dat creator choose on a whim.

so yes it is worth using them.

They do rely on you having correctly named rom sets (it would take FAR too long to have all the checksums checked instead), and needs complete db's.

There are quite a few complete db's now (first page of the database project sticky), and the remaining databases have been ALL edited to match with all the games known by Mobygames as a starting point, so they do still contain a huge amount of data.

Work is progressing on the databases and a N64 one is half way done now (massive slog 968 games to do :( ).

Flash,

I just reloaded GameEx on another PC so that I can pull-down the de-lacerated databases. Looking at the Intellivision database, I see a few games missing from it. Are these the same DB's you guys are working on? If so, can I add some games to it and send it to you?

Tron Solar Salier, Blockade Runner, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball, Super Pro Football, Slam Dunk Basketball... are a few to start.

If this is not the database you're working on, where can I get it?

Thanks

Think this thread is a good one for meto ask a few questions etc as it's relavent.

I've got a load of games for a few systems but have never really sorted them just saved the different sets to DVD etc.

Now that i've just built a media centre to put all my films and games onto i would like some sanity and organisation to things. Seems that i've liked GameEx as a front end since i donated the other day.

The only Rom tool i've really looked at was goodrom? i think it was for the N64 which showed a fair few correct rom, some with just name problem and a load of unknowns. I never let it change any names because things worked so i was happy enough.

Ok i'm rambling onto the questions.

I'm pretty much starting from scratch here and will start with PS1 as i only have about 30 games for that, what should i use to name them correctly to use with GameEx? After that will be N64 because i did start to look at what i got/not got for that system again what naming tool??

I'll start with the systems with fewer games, it seems the easy option to get the hang of what i'm doing.

When you do have it, please let me know how you get on with the matching, The naming is based on the currently available dumps, not IMBERZERK renames

Hey, I never said mine were for everyone... ;)

But I do have to point out that there are a lot of games missing that were un-released, un-popular, or simply missed. I wouldn

t rely on just dumps, sometimes more research helps.

Take a look at the Intellivision Lives! site and see the ones you are missing. Most of them are the better 1-player versions of the older 2-player games. Super Pro Football is one of them. That's actually a fun game as a 1-player, same for the Basketball game.

If you want, I can send you my database and you can pick-out the lines from the games that I added. I pulled most of it from Moby, but many are from the Intellivision site. This way you have a thick list of Inty games, not just the more well-known ones.

If the names are wrong, they can be changed.

Not sure if the intellivision db on the latest release is my latest release.

It contains all "4" tron games including the stand alone dig dug tron deadly dogs hidden game, Blockade runner is there, as is nhl and nba, "Slam Dunk: Super Pro Basketball" to use it's correct name :), .....

In total 220 games including all demos and alternate versions.

All i can conclude is that it has not been released yet (TOM? HK?) or your roms are not strict names...

Tron deadly discs should be named as such,

TRON - Deadly Discs (1981)(Mattel)

in all fairness the brackets after the name are only valid on games with multiple versions, so this filename would also be ok,

TRON - Deadly Discs

I wondered how long it would take you to find my little dig :lol::lol: ... I thought i may have been able to get a bit of a better response than that though - I must be losing my touch.. Must continue my scholarship at "Mr Tempest school of putdowns" oh well.... ;)

Anyway,

To carry on with the Intellivison thing...

It contains almost every single release/non-release/proto except a handful of the modified bios files (who leaves them in the rom directory anyway?)

I certainly includes the games you have mentioned here and in the earlier 1 and 2 player only version and also all SDK-1600 releases and the ECS Songplayer releases.

I try hard to make them as exact as I can and spend MANY hours on a db (well in excess of 60 hours on some). But.. no-one is perfect. If you find a title missing on a COMPLETE database and am 100% sure that your file is named after one of the existing dats or that it is not present within any - PLEASE let me know as I will 100% add it.

The ultimate aim is to get them ALL complete.

Please read my other reply regarding the problems with missing game matches.

Hope that helped?

The ps1 naming is a bit tricky. To be honest, the easiest way is to try and guess the correct name. There is a dat available to name them for you, but it is VERY hit and miss as it relys on 'scene' releases. Download the tosec iso dat for the playstation and open it in notepad to see the names that they have used.

for other systems like the N64, uses clrmamepro and a dat for the system to name them correctly. There are many posts here to help you with that. my fingers hurt :)

PS.

You have not got the full Intellivision db... Hang with it and it will be updated soon.

That should clear all your problems/missing data.

If there are any missing (how could there be? :) ) please let me know!

Hmmm not sure what version number I'm using, but the Gameex.exe file is dated 3/22/08. Is that the latest version? :P

I guess I should update, I hear the V4 themes are nice....

I guess this explains why there was no interest in my map file script...it was outdated before I even started writing it!

Oh dear Tempest... Did someone make a nasty loud noise while you were sleeping?

Nevermind, you're up now - stick the kettle on!

in all fairness though - I wonder how many people know that the completed db's will take care of the displayed name of the roms for you?

Thanks Flash,

No the latest version of GameEx does not have your databases in it. I checked auto-download, and then opened the Inty Db in Access, and it was the same.

How do I get the new ones? My game machine is a standalone, so everything has to be loaded via a thumbdrive or DVD.

I'm looking forward to the new DB's. I'll then go back and rename the ROMs to whatever is listed in the DB. It'll work good, as I'll have a definitive list to go by.

Download the offline DB pack.

Remember, you don't need to manually rename the roms. Just use romcenter or clrmamepro and the relevent dat for the system you are using (ie. http://www.no-intro.org/datset. http://www.tosec.org/, or http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/index.ph...d=4&page=2) and let them do the work for you.

Don't forget to turn on "Database naming". Any problems with the databases, please post on the main database thread.

OK, will do. BTW... is there a link to the offline databases? I've been poking around the site and have not seen them, so I resorted to loading GameEx on another PC, and allowing it to pull them down automatically.

I checked the INTY Db and wow... you really got it all. :)

Thanks - really glad you are happy....

This is the first bit of nice feedback I have had regarding the db's from anyone not invoved on the project, So - thanks. Little things like that really do make it worthwhile.

With regards the offline databases, they are located with the themes archive http://www.gameex.net/download/Themes-Databases.7z
