Hello everyone!

So Ive decided its about time to get rid of my dinosaur and upgrade my pc. I found a new pc (which seems to be way better then my actual gaming machine) and wanted some opinions about it.

This is a "factory refurbished model"

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...p?EdpNo=4199866

Is the link but I know some people don't like clicking on random links so here are some quick specs.

Gateway GT5662 Refurbished Desktop PC - AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.2GHz, 3GB DDR2, 500GB SATA2 , DVDRW-Labelflash, ATI Radeon HD 2400XT, 10/100 LAN, Windows Vista Home Premium

AMD Phenomâ?¢ 9500, 64-bit quad core processor

Each core operates at 2.2 GHz

2 MB L3 cache

3600 MHz system bus

NVIDIA® GeForce® 6150SE chipset

3072 MB DDR2, 667 MHz, (PC2-5300) dual channel memory (two 1024 MB and two 512 MB modules)

500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA II hard drive

DVD ±RW, 18X super multi-format dual layer

That should be way powerful to play almost all (old and maybe even some newer) games out there right?

Now here is my problem. Its Vista its a gateway and its refurbished.

So I guess my major concerns are:

1. Will it play almost everything with no major speedup/slow down?

2. Vista... is it still as bad as everyone says?

3. Has anyone ever bought a refurbished pc from Tiger Direct?

4. Gateway..... Do I have to say more?

Also this is a weekend sale, so if possible the faster I get a responce the better please.

That's a pretty good price especially for the specs! Anywa...

1.it'll definitely play just about everything with no slowdown. Not sure about games like Mortal Kombat 4 in Mame though it might :)

2.Vista isn't as bad anymore at least imo I'm using it on my desktop and run Mame/other emulators all the time!

3.I never about a refurb from Tigetdirect but have bought other things from them they have great service!

4.Gateway isn't too bad I have a Gateway laptop I haven't had any problems with it.'

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks for the info,

like yourself I have bought a bunch of junk from Tigerdirect but never used so I little worried about buying used pc parts.

nice price and good specs, except the graphics card

the 2400xt isn't really spectacular... but should be quite sufficient for the most purposes. mame mostly (only?) uses cpu power and the most sophisticated emu that will run on this setup is probably nulldc. with a quad core you should also be able to get decent speeds with pcsx2 but the 2400xt could be a bottleneck... if you wanna play modern pc games like bioshock or call of duty 4 then you should probably consider upgrading the graphics card

This pc would be for my mame machine only. I have a gaming pc but to be honest, I dont even play many modern games, I prefer the arcade
