Enabling sound in video preview snaps, lock

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I did do quite a bit of searching beforehand.

Fresh install of Gameex, video previews work perfectly, but if i enable the option 'Audio in snap/preview videos' then go back into gameex, as soon as i choose a game, the video preview goes black, but i can hear it fine. However it will not let me scroll to other games any longer i have to kill the gameex process to get out. If i turn that option back off, its fine.

Any ideas?

thanks

I can only think of 2 possibilities that would cause this.

1) System specs are marginal/too low. Is your system capable of running the videos and GameEx? This would only likely be a problem if it's a really old system though.

2) What codec are you using for you previews? If you are not using the FFDSHOW codec that's available on the GameEx homepage, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the codec isn't compatible. For example, at one point there was a version of the Divx codec that had a system tray icon that would steal focus from GameEx and break things.

Other than those two, I can't think of anything else to check off the top of my head. I'm assuming the video plays correctly in Windows (outside of GameEx), correct?

Thanks for your suggestions!

1) It's old but not OLD. It's XP Pro 32-bit, 1 GB RAM, AMD64 dual core 3800, Radeon X1800. All of my emulation and Gameex is running from an external USB 2.0 hard drive, separate to the OS. Output is S-Video to a TV at 1024x768, 32-bit colour :)

2) Following a codec cleanup procedure in this thread http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=5994 , I cleaned out all codecs and installed FFDShow, Matroska, and Quicktime Alternative. There may be residuals left over from a codec pack, but I haven't had any video problems but for this. A clean OS install would be too much for such a small problem which it may not even fix, and I'm happy with the way everything works.

3) Yes it plays correctly in WMP Classic.

I'd like to see if Onji says something similar.
