mortal kombat 2 and 3 sound issues

I know this doesnt have anything to do with game ex, but i figure someone had this problem as well. i first had the problem of the stuttering, so i added 512 mb of ram to my computer (making it 1 gb now) and lowered the resolution, which helped alot. now i am getting a fuzzy cracking sound. i checked mame help and it said this could happen, but to up the audio latency to fix this, but it didnt work. also i cant change the refresh rate on monitor, it only has one setting. does anybody else have this problem?

I forget which one it was, I think MK II but on mine the volume is really low.

Turn off tripplebuffer?

i figured out what can be done abou the low sound. if you hit F2 while playing, you get a menu where you can adjust the volume of the game. i might try an older version of mame to see if this helps with the crackling sound
