Hi.

When I launch Visual Pinball, vPinMAME doesn't come up with it. All I can see is the table, and I can't seem to play it. If I launch the table without GameEx, it works fine. In GameEx, I can't even see the LED... It's as if vPinMAME never existed for whatever reason. It almost seems like vPinMame isn't loading at all even though it's supposed to! I'm getting really frustrated because I know I've had this working before!!! Well, before the reformat anyhow... Anyone care to help me out?

I was going to ask you to post your config, but to save time, I'll post mine:

[Emulator_6]
Enabled=False
STARTPAGENAME=[Pinball] (Visual PinMAME)
TITLETEXT=Visual PinMAME
StartPageLogo=Visual Pinball
ROMFilter=*.vpt
RomPath=C:\Emulators\Pinball\Tables
SnapPath=
TitlePath=
BoxPath=
CartPath=
ManualPath=
ControlPanelPath=
InstructionsPath=
WorkingPath=C:\Emulators\Pinball\Tables
MapKeys=True
WaitBeforeKeys=
SendKeys=
ReplaceDash=True
ReplaceUnder=True
Capitals=True
RemoveBrackets=True
ShowDesktop=True
Debug=False
MAPFile=
AlsoLaunch=[apppath]\vpauto.exe
Command=..\VPinball.exe -play -"[ROMFILE]"
OLDatZip=
LaunchBefore=
LaunchAfter=
configFile=
ExcludedFiles=
CustomBackground=
PlayMusic=False
DontShowInfo=
PlaySelectionMusic=False
SelectionMusicFolder=
PCGame=False
DATABASE=
GamesIn7Zips=False
PlayInScreenSaver=False
ShowMostPlayed=True
RandomMostPlayed=False
CDCheck=False
CDCheckFile=
[GENERAL]
DumbyValue=

I think the important things are:

  1. Showdesktop = true
  2. The call to VPauto...Vpauto should already be in your Gameex folder.
  3. Set your working path to your rom (tables) path
  4. Use the .. in your command - ..\VPinball.exe -play -"[ROMFILE]"
  5. Make sure VPinball.exe is in the root folder (just above your tables.)

BTW: I haven't read your comment yet, so if it wasn't nice, I'll be back to change this reply... That's funnier than I planned, because you won't know if this is the original reply or not! :lol:

Unfortunately, that's just what my config looks like (I imported it from the existing configs and changed VPinball-XPFix6.exe to VPinball.exe) so that rules that out. :(

Are you sure I didn't change my post after reading your comment?

Yes I'm sure. My config is nearly identical and still no joy. All the important notes you made are set the same way, and I'm still no closer than when I started. :(

I'll jump on the cab and post my config.

EDIT: I have JoyToKey in the Launch Before line, so that's about the only difference I can see.

No one is willing to help me out? :(

I can't be the only one with Visual Pinball on my cab...

Well if that's the only difference you see then why not try without JoyToKey to see what your results are? Seems rather silly to walk away from a diff that you noticed yourself. :wacko::P

I have a confession to make. I do have Vpinmame installed on my original computer, ans AFAIK it still works on that computer. I checked on my new comuter, which is running XP 64, and it's not running. I tried starting over with Brians setup package, and Vpinmame wouldn't run, because it said it was expired. I followed the link, and downloaded the latest version, and it says I'm missing MSSTDFMT.DLL. So I downloaded that, and put it in my system32 folder, and used the command "regsvc32 MSSTDFMT.DLL" (because that's what they said to do ;) ) and it won't register. I downloaded some more stuff last night, and am going to keep trying today.

Questions:

  1. Does anybody have good sources for xp64 stuff? (drivers etc.) It would be nice to have links for future use.
  2. Is there something special that needs to be done to setup Vpinmame for XP64?
  3. Would somebody Please help Adultery get this running? :P

I know this is not really any kind of help, I just wanted to say that I got so frustrated with Vpinmame that I kicked my cabinet more than once these days!

I spent two complete days trying to get it to run smoothly. I gave up. The program didn't like me and I didn't like it. I guess we'll never become friends!

Now I use Future Pinball which took like 5 minutes to set up. It runs really great and looks so much nicer than all I saw from Vpinmame.. I know it's not the same as emulating original pinball hardware...

anyway just my two cents :)

OK. I uninstalled the pinball program(s), deleted my directory, and started from scratch. I used brian's setup, but used the latest version of Pinmame. Everything works fine. :)

I envy you that yours works. I still can't get VPinMAME to show up over the top of the table! Are you using the latest dogfood build of Visual Pinball? If so, can you share it? I can't find it anywhere.
