I've tried asking this in two other (not mine) topics already, but I don't get an answer so I guess perhaps this thread won't be ignored as well.

How do you get the Mod Foreground picture to show in the theme like in greatflash's latest theme? You guys aren't holding out on me because of the theme competition, right? :D

I think we should all ignore this thread...!

Seems some people are having trouble displaying the foreground images. The only thing I noticed is you have to have both a background and foreground image defined to display them.

See the attached picture. Other than that I have no idea and Tom probably needs to chime in and give some advice.

Mine are all the same except with "_Foreground" tagged to the end. Ie. the same filename.

In the setup of each emu I selected the background name (without _foreground) and gameex magically does the rest.

Thanks for your replies. I'll try both approaches and report back. What I've done before authoring this thread is trying to enable both inside the Theme Editor.

Sadly, i cannot help there. I have not used the editor for backgrounds, only to position stuff on screen..

Okay, tried both (basically the same) methods and none of them works for me. Well, then back to "the hard way" of skinning.

Thanks anyway.

one thing i should have said is that the foregrounds currently (ttbomk) only work on custom emulators (emu1, emu2, emu3, etc) and not the standard GameEx backgrounds, Daphne, startbak, bak, etc.

So... if you have not tried yet, set up a SNES emu and use/create these files.

snes. png <------------- standard background

snes_foreground.png <---------------- an overlay

In the snes emu setup, select cusom background as snes.png and gameex will do the rest.

NOTE: the snes_foreground file must be an image surrounded with true black (not sure if transparency works as yet), black is used as the mask and anything under the black will be shown through...

Really hope this helps...?

Hey, thanks. That helps a lot. Now I know I can forget about the idea, since my theme is Vertical Only (only MAME kinda). However, it didnt work for my PC game emu setup. But never mind, the idea I had was for ALL screens.

Don't worry too much, I know that Tom is working on adding foreground support to all screens, if he has not already done it ready for the next GameEx release.

So, it will come - looking forward to it myself!

That will be great, yes. I also hope he'll catch on to my idea of scrolling backgrounds (see feature requests-thread) if that's possible.

oh I hope Tom will hear your call! This would be a really nice addition, indeed and has a lot of potential for creative output and use!

maybe its possible to incorporate flash into gameex (like in hypersin) ... but i don't have a clue, just my thoughts :)

I don't know about incorporating Flash into Gameex, but I do know that they have already started using the new databases that he has been working on with the use of some tools that Headkaze created. I can't believe you haven't heard about, that's all he does is ramble on about completing this database, and having problems with that one. Can't get him to shut about it really, it's starting to become annoying...

I'm not sure I would fit in gameex, not with all the DB's i have been working on...... ;)
