if you're using MAME 0.99 u6 (or even perhaps u4 and u5)

-skip_disclaimer is no longer valid...

if you use it, MAME doesn't load...

try to see your mame.ini and remove it from it, and see too in GameEX MAME options if it's checked somewhere (i dunno that much gameex)...

I dont think its a MAME issue as MamU suggested.

Can you replace GameEx.exe with the attached Debug version and post the log?

I donated today and recieved the reg file so it goes past that screen but still exits with the error log after the gameex logo flashes briefly.Hers the log file using the debugger version.

It seems you have a custom Background video in Themes\Default - Default. This is causing the error, although may not be the video itself. What is this video, does it play OK in Windows Media Player? It will be called bak.avi or bak.mpg.

Try renaming that to something else, and see if GameEx works now. I suspect it will but check out the video is valid too, and you have the codec installed.

There was something not right in that theme,switched to default theme and it now starts but now the menu is very choppy and slow to respond,not sure why,tried most of the things in the sluggish post,alpha blend was already off,didn't have this before either.Games are ok after they start,just the menu is slow.

Might sound like a silly question, but your not still using the debug version are you?

No,actually I uninstalled and reinstalled gameex (v4.99) just to make sure nothing suspect was left behind,still have the same choppy menu.The messed up theme was actually a combination of the default gameex theme with the background files from the purple theme,I liked the purple theme backgrounds but didn't care for the menus so I copied the purple theme backgrounds to the default-default theme.Worked fine through several updates.Not really sure what brought this on.I've got videos(avi) for all my games and they worked previously,I was running v4.68 or 4.72 before this update.I've been running 512 of pc3200 memory all along with no problems,maybe I'll try putting in a gig and see if theres any diff. And just for info I'm using mame v89B,only because thats my rom set version and I just like to keep them all the same (mame,roms and catver) to eliminate any version conflicts.

I notice your using an Nvidia card, what version drivers are you using? Theres issues with newer versions. Theres more info on the docs page.

If thats not the issue, please run the debug version again now its working and post the log. So I can see if any other exceptions are going down.

As I said though please try the version above, I think it will fix issues with your modifed theme.

EDIT: Are you saying your game videos are now not working with 4.99?

i'm pretty sure its the drivers then, lots of people have issues with that. Symptons are as you say, runs really slow.

thats exactly what it was,thanks for the help Tom,I installed the older nvidia driver and its working normally again.The theme I was using still would not work though.I did notice that the main menu screen background from the purple theme I copied that was causing the trouble is different than the one in the new purple theme set,So I just copied the backgrounds from the new purple theme set.
