I don't think gameex supports it yet.  It has been requested, though.

Its on the docs page, but the way the GameEx user interface is, its really not likely to ever support Vertical displays. So sorry, but don't hold your breath.

I've heard Mala is a very good alternative if your looking for a front end that supports verticallly mounted monitors.

Mala can also be set to rotate the MAME games with the frontend.

Just so I dont raise hopes, Vertical support is never likely to happen.

The reason is simple, in that the GameEx GUI will just not fit on a vertically reported display at Low res Arcade Monitor resolutions. It would need to be running at at least 1024X768 and as low res arcade monitors cant support this resolution thats the reason.

If there was actually demand for running GameEx rotated but at high res, then I will certainly implement it.

What are your thoughts?

I'm gonna use a PC monitor in my cab that will be rotatable and I'll definitely use a rotating frontend. I would prefer GameEx over MALA anytime.

Would it be easier to have two different GameEx executables? One horizontal and one vertical? No rotation. Just two different programs. Would that make it easier? Or is this about resolutions on arcade monitors?

The latter. I can implement it as a configuration option/s its just never something thats going to be for the Low/Medium Res Arcade Monitor crowd.

Ok, So here's how my current rotating monitor setup. first I created 2 profiles, 1 horizontal and 1 vertical (go figure). with the help of irotate (great little program) each profile boots to the proper orientation. I also created 2 seperate mame directories, again 1 for horizontal and vertical and used a batch file to seperate the roms based on orientation. then i setup Gameex to launch at boot for the horizontal profile and Mala for the vertical. Now only the roms for each frontend are listed and available per profile. Don't know if this will help in any way, but theres my setup and it works great so far. Any other ideas?

ps: the second mame directory shares all the extra files with the first (titles,snaps,sample,ect...) to save space.

no no, i don't want to rotate GAMEEX. I just want to launch verticals game automatically , whithout manipulations.

I have found the tips : i add -autoror (or -autorol) in the command line in GAMEEX and verticals games rotate automatically. But horizontals games stay horizontal

If you use a MAME32 build, can't you filter your games through orientation? Than select them all and rotate them. Then when launching your game from GameEx, they should be rotated.

I can add this kind of support quite easily, but why would you want to run GameEx horizontally and the Games Vertically? That would be a hell of a lot of physicaly rotation required there. Could you explain?
