I've been working on a theme, known as BBC, and I'm getting tired of all of the DirectX errors, so here's the deal:

I'm done with all the theme artwork as far as I can tell, and I tried to redo almost all of the icons/logos. I've uploaded this theme on the GameEx Theme Download for a resolution of 1600x1200. If a guru or two can help me get the goddamn ini to work, I'll get an 800x600 version up, and I have all the artwork done for a 1920x1080 version as well. I have to drive into town to access the internet at the moment (15 miles); soooooooo, I'm limited to my battery life.

When I window this theme, it goes black and errors out. When I go fullscreen it opens, but as soon as I move the cursor it errors out. And yes I have the latest laptop video drivers. I also need some ideas on how to reduce the size. Since I'm using the same background for everything, just changing foreground images, can I use one background image, or do I need to have one for each and every emulator? To whet the appetite, I've included two pictures below of what it's supposed to look like.

If you notice any issues, artwork or otherwise, please let me know! Or, if you want extra MAME icons, I can accomodate as long as you give me a decent screen capture to use :)

is there a any way you could do like a video tutorial on how to create a theme on something like youtube?

It would be one hell of a video.. There is a lot involved in the construction.

You can make a theme in 5 mins using another as a template, or you can go the whole hog and create one from scratch using all new graphics and spend several weeks.

The best way is to play. Create (or update) a new theme in the editor and set it to the resolution you wish. Then work on the main menu background first and play till you get it how you want to. Make sure not to place items so they will be off screen, i.e. text too close to edge of screen.

When you have the opening menu correct, work through other screens (emu's, daphne, etc)

The easiest way is to download a theme you like and play with it. See how it was built and what graphics were used (in the themes/media folder). You can do no damage except to the theme you are editing.

If you have a specific question (other than - how do i make a theme), feel free to post it and i am sure lots of people will jump to offer help.

Sorry if i cannot be more helpful.

LingPanda already made 6 theme editor video tutorials in flash. I think they are on the main page to download.

I know, should have said. Though these are a bit out of date now and are more of a demonsration than a tutorial. Well worth a look.

But the best method is to play.
