Ok, I've done the search on the forum and have read every relevant thread I could find regarding the setup of ScummVM in GameEx. I see there's a way to do it using bat files but the way described is very confusing. I've downloaded the ScummVM support files but I'm not certain how to implement them, I've imported the ini from the support files to my GameEx Advanced Config as Emulator #14 ScummVM and adjusted the correct paths. The only thing is that I have my games in a different folder on a different drive & they're Torrent Zipped. I'm guessing this is wrong and will not work. Do I need to extract each game to it's own separate folder and put them all in the "Games" folder of SummVM on my C:drive? What should I name the individual folders, does it matter? Do I need bat files? I can get my games to work outside of GameEx if I unzip them to a folder, so I know my games will work, just not in GameEx, .....yet. I'm also wondering if there's game pad support as I have a Logitech Dual Action game pad.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Love the bold.

You see there is issues here. Gameex will support GoodMerged files. Bit it could be VERY time consuming for gameex to extract some of thier larger games before launching them. Also Im not sure they are packaged as ROMS .. I belive they are just old pc games. (like sierra AGI) Leisure suit larry etc...

So other factors include gameex not supporting roms in subfolders... There are very creative solutions here by creating hardlinks and creative map files.. All which may or may not be the best way to go about this.

If you can do batch files that would be best this way as you can point to the games where ever they are. So if the scummvm support command line.

Thats the way id go.

I personally dont have that set but I thinks thats the best choice by speculation

I liked the bold so much I removed it :)

I suggest you take a look at the ScummVM kit I made on the GameEx website here. You will notice I use a combination of scummvm.ini, a GameEx map file and a folder of dummy files. You just need to alter the paths to suit your own set up. You will need to extract the games into a folder aswell.

Brian: AGI games use a different engine to Scumm games, but there are AGI emulators around ScummVM doesn't emulate those AFAIK.

What's wrong with Bold? I like it and find it easier to look at and read. It's not shouting and it's not offensive. If you run the site and don't like bold then why don't you delete the option to use it. I feel offended that my post was countermanded/altered for no good reason.

Thanks for your help I'm sure I'll figure things out.

Just like you weren't trying to be offensive by using bold, I wasn't trying to be offensive by editing your post.

I find it distracting when a whole post is in bold. Bold is there to emphasise something, it's not meant for a whole post otherwise it would be set by default.

If your finding it hard to read posts in plain text you can always increase the default font size in your browser settings.

I see your logic. Thanks for clarifying. I will attempt adjustments from my end. ;)

I sure could use some expert help from anyone out there who is familiar with getting ScummVM to work in GameEx. Is there anyone out there willing to offer help?

Thanks in advance

As I said in my first reply you should download the package from here as it contains all the files you need to setup Scumm. Flash just released a ScummVM database that should be even better than the map file method I was using.

Hey Flash if your reading this, perhaps we need to repackage that file with the database so it uses that instead of the map file?

That would be a good idea BK. It does the job of the map file and more ;) (I take it you have tried it?)

In your loader, the imported emu settings also point to the map file being in a completely different place to its lcation (the root of the archive), this could cause confusion even though you mentioned to change the paths.

One thing that should be noted by anyone using the loader - you must set all your games up in Scummvm FIRST. Go into ScummVM and import the games one by one. Without doing this, the loader will fail to start a game regardless of weather you have set correct paths or not. So, make sure ScummVM is working OUTSIDE of GameEx before posting about problems with the loader. If the loaders instructions are followed, then there is nothing that could possibly cause a problem, great piece of work on HK's parts (good idea with the dummy files).

Actually there is no loader at all it's all done using ScummVM's own ini file. I haven't tried the database yet because I don't always have my cab running. I am seriously thinking of setting up GameEx on my dev PC with all the emulators set up just so I can have quick access to testing things. I do have wireless access to my cab, but don't have it running all the time as it's quite noisy (it has two huge fans at the back lol).

Its still a loader in my book :) It enables the loading of games from within GameEx that would not be possible otherwise.

And yes, get your dev PC sorted for testing purposes with emus. A good idea that i use under Vista (also fine on XP) is to set another user as "Emu Testbed" and have that organised for GameEx and other stuff. This enables me to have desktop links and a modified start button to help keep my main desktop nice and clean. Also emus like SSF (saturn) sometimes reset all the desktop icons to the top left, really annoying on the main desktop that i use, but no problem on the emu one.
