Hey all. New to the forum but been using Gameex quite often for a few months now.

I have searched but can not find a solution. Whenever I try to play a dvd, it fails after about 5 seconds of black and returns to game ex. I have played with all the options, used several versions of game ex, messed with decoders,wmp10 and 11, installed powerdvd, used different themes, and probably a few things I am forgetting by now. Dvds do play in windows otherwise.

Oh, and I have tried it both registered and non. Below is the log file from loading gameex and going directly to a dvd. I bolded the error message below.

Thanks for any help!

Somthing isnt registered correctly. Can you tell us more about your windows installation. is it a tiny or nlited build? servicepack etc..

Also can you post your gameex config ini?

Have you tried on a seprate pc? I really dont theink this issue is totally gameex related and there are other circumstances.

I'm not sure its gameex related either, but I would like to fix it either way.

Windows XP SP2. Not lite or anything like that. I don't believe XP2 is included in the install but I don't remember.

Attached is my config.csv file.

Thats not the GameEx config file, it's called CONFIG\GameEx.ini

Anyway have you got an MPEG2 codec installed? Which one are you using? See attached screenshot.

My mistake on the config. New file is attached.

As for the codecs I have the latest (as of a few weeks) K-lite pack with ffdshow and default settings. Going through the setup wizard at this moment I am using power dvd, unregistered but within the 30 days. I have tried it with other settings though (via advanced config as opposed to the wizard) This Windows install is only a few months old and this is the only codec pack I have installed. I did have gameex installed before this windows install however I never tried the DVD feature.

Thanks for the help so far.

Disclaimer: I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. I googled, and I thought you, or someone else might find this helpful.

The bold to the text was was added by me to highlight what I thought might be relevent, but may not mean anything. ;)

In my opionion, you should first run the web application by ASP.NET Development Server to exclude the permission cause (the web application running under IIS by defualt uses the â??ASPNETâ? or â??Network Serviceâ? accounts, ASP.NET Development Server uses current Windows login account).

If debugging in ASP.NET Development Server does not have this issue, we can confirm it is cause by lack of privilege and permission. You probaly need to the change ASP.NET running account to â??local systemâ? or grant extra privilege and permission to â??ASPNETâ? or â??Network Serviceâ? by using dcomcnfg.exe.

If debugging in ASP.NET Development Server still has this issue, please record the com component (the source line stoped when debugging) which throw the error. Go to check if the com component or the related software is installed correctly on your desktop machine.

FIXED!

Thanks for all the help.

I went into dcomcnfg.exe and did two things. I switched asp.net from manual start to automatic. I also switched it to run on local system as opposed to "this account".

ahh, i thought it was fixed, but i was wrong.

I have discovered new information though. When in 1360x768 resolution and cloned display (onto my hdtv through a vga connection that I typically run gameex in, the dvd player displays the above message. In regular single display at 1280x1024 it works fine.

I have a Radeon 9600. I tried playing with the the secondary monitor setting and no dice. Also, xvid and h.264 videos play fine.

Dvd's play fine in windows with both resolutions. Now that I have some insight I will continue playing around. My next step will be messing with my catalyst drivers. If anyone has any ideas let me know.
