Is it possible to play mame racing games without a wheel and pedal?

Hi, I notice most (if not all) racing games on mame are analogue and use a wheel and pedal. Is it possible to play with keyboard? Or is it rubbish?

Thanks :P

You can play pretty much any game in MAME with a keyboard. Now, don't expect it to be accurate, but it is possible. If you want to give it a try, you just configure the increment and decrement inputs instead of the analog input. As I recall, you also will want to adjust the speed by going into the analog settings menu.

Thanks bken.

I'm trying to do that now. Can you explain what these are and what they do:

Pedal 1 Analog

Pedal 1 Analog Dec

Pedal 1 Analog Inc

Also the above is the same for Dial, eg:

Dial 1 Analog Dec

Pedal 1 Analog...........Analog control input. This can be a mouse axis, analog stick axis, potentiometer based pedal, etc.

Pedal 1 Analog Dec....Digital input to decrement. Digital means on/off, so this is like a button press. If you use a button, it will be interpreted as each press reducing the angle by some incremental value.

Pedal 1 Analog Inc.....Digital input to increment. Same but opposite as decrement.

For a steering wheel, Dec turns the wheel left. For a pedal, dec will be like pushing the pedal down (typically).

I'm just a simple lass can you explain that in laymans terms please? I'm not using mice, analog sticks axis or pentometer pedals. Only keyboard.

Also, Pedal 1 Analog doesnt seem to allow any keystroke.

Ok, I'll try again.

steering wheel 1 analog dec = left arrow

steering wheel 1 analog inc = right arrow

Pedal 1 Analog Dec = up arrow

Pedal 1 Analog Inc = down arrow

You don't need to set the other analog controls to anything.

I don't see a "steering wheel analog 1", only:

Paddle

Positional

Dial

Track

AD Stick

Lightgun

Mouse
