Since GameEx now is updated every day with a new version, how about hosting the "last stable version" installer on http://www.tomspeirs.com/gameex to save the people who just want to try it out the trouble with getting bugged?

And perhaps a link to http://www.gameex.info for "get latest beta here"? I think this way, people can read about the current beta's issues before trying it, this way taking some load of this board / Tom.

i think every version is better than the last, really. and when Tom does break something, he ups a new build very quickly. of course, if he knew he was going away or something a last known good build would be a good idea.

i think the way he's doing things is fine, but one idea would be to the host the one previous version with the new one, just so people can see if something was just broken.

I know there have been some problems with the recent installers. However, looking at the longer history of GameEx releases, I don't think getting into the whole "beta version" thing is necessary. It's been truly rare that an update inhibits overall operation, and the good almost always outweighs the bad. Having new releases labelled "beta" might deter people from using the newer versions. That might deprive Tom of valuable input, and create more of a support headache trying to keep track of which version people are reporting problems about.

Still, keeping a "golden oldie" around might not be a bad idea, for people to try out as a last resort.

Emph,

I do like the idea of keeping 1 previous version, but I do consider almost every GameEx release a stable full release. There has been a few bugs repported lately, but these seem to be configuration errors, due to users PC (like buggy .net framework 2), or bugs that go back lots of versions that have just been identified. New versions really are not buggy, i am kind of upset you have that impression. We are getting a lot more users lately, hence more issues. There deffinitly not Beta versions.

I didn't mean for this to sound that the new versions are bug infested, I just think that since there are now close to 2 new versions each day, perhaps it would be less time consuming for you to maintain only these pages. And then of course when a major update (like vertical screen support!?) you announce that on your main site.

Hope I didn't rain on your parade.

No problem, was having a bad day! I have to agree with the comments from djrobx and Smiff though really. Although I will seriously think about hosting a previous version on the site.
