Ok, I'll try to offer as much info as I possibly can. First I'll start by saying I have the latest version of Future Pinball installed (v1.8.20080323). My PC specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro X64

Motherboard: Asus Maximum

CPU: Intel Q6600 2.4 Ghz Quad Core

Memory: 4 Gb

Video Card: ATI Radeon X1650 Pro - 512MB PCI Express

All of my Pinball Tables are Torrent Zipped.

Here is my GameEx Config:

Start Page Name: Future Pinball

Title Text: Future Pinball

Logo: Fpinball

Rom Filter: *.zip;*fpt

Rom Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Future Pinball\Tables

Snap/Video Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Future Pinball\Snap

Title Snap Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Future Pinball\Titles

Working Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Future Pinball

Map Keys: Yes

Replace Dashes: Yes

Replace Underscores: Yes

Capitalize Words: Yes

Remove Text in Brackets: Yes

Show Desktop: No

Debug Mode: No

Command Line: "Future Pinball.exe" /open "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" /play /exit

Excluded Files: ;SegmentDisplayDemo.fpt;LightSequencerDemo.fpt;Ramp-VUK-Demo.fpt

Zip/7-Zip/Goodmerge: Yes

Every time I select a Pinball Table to play from within GameEx this is what happens, Future Pinball will start and the table will start to load however before the Table appears and with the loader status bar still present on the screen, the sound for the game will start and I will get a windows message saying that "Future Pinball has encountered and error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I've tried with all three Future Pinball Video/Rendering settings, "Min, Medium, Max". All with the same error result.

This is the error:

AppName: future pinball.exe AppVer: 1.8.2008.323 ModName: atioglx2.dll

ModVer: 6.14.10.7769 Offset: 004fbf42

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

hi madman atioglx2.dll is an open gl driver error in the dynamic link library i would suggest either updating your video card driver see if that fixes the problem or use an older version of the drivers there may be a bug in the ones you have

hope this helps and good luck!!! ;)

Thanks. Yes, I forgot to mention above that all system drivers are the latest including my ATI Catalyst Video Driver but like you suggest, perhaps an older version would work better.

As far as running Future Pinball outside of GameEx, I haven't tried any of my Tables because they're all Zipped but the Demos that came with the Future Pinball install worked OK, just with no sound. I assumed that the Default Demos have no sound. I will unzip one of my Tables and try it outside of GameEx tonight after work.

Update --> I unzipped one of my Tables and tried it outside of GameEx and I received the same error. I will try the ATI drivers next.

Always try outside of GameEx to verify. Now it's narrowed down. Thanks walmartman for jumping in. When you do get it to work also make sure you unzip all the library files needed to run that table. Just unzipping the table using the unzip feature in GameEx will not always make the table work for those that require their own libraries.

Hi

I had this OpenGL or similar error with FuturePinball, solution i found out was add some data to registry, i think i still have that file on my harddrive.

Arrrrg! I give up. After extensive research and googeling I've discovered that ATI has serious deficiency issues regarding OpenGL support and their drivers. Apparently this has been an on going issue with ATI. From what I've read ATI's OpenGL support for their line of video cards is software based where as nVidia is hardware based and far superior. I've tried copying and pasting the four OpenGL drivers installed to my system by the ATI Catalist installer to my system32 folder, SysWOW64 folder and the Future Pinball folder.

I've also reciprocated the change of OpenGL driver in my registry.

HK Local Machine/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/OpenGL Drivers/ati2dvag

I have four OpenGL drivers installed by ATI:

atio6ax2.dll

atio6axx.dll

atioglx2.dll

atioglxx.dll

I've tried all four drivers and made certain I rebooted after each registry modification. Upon each trial of Future Pinball (outside of GamEX) I keep getting the original error pointing towards the atioglx2.dll, even if I've alter the registry to a different driver. I guess my only other option is to trash the ATI video card and switch to nVidia. Are there any recommendations?

Thanks anyway but if you open your reg fix with note pad and look at the contents you will see it's the exact same registry key as I just described above. All your reg fix does is alter the OpenGL driver being used. I've already tried that with all four OpenGL drivers with the same negative result.

Thanks anyway, I appreciate your effort in trying to help but I think the only real solution is to swap the ATI video card for an Nvidia video card.

Ok, have not checked it with notepad, although it worked with my Ati card.

I'm thinking of ordering one of these,

PNY XLR8 GeForce 9800 GTX Video Card - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV

It supports v2.1 OpenGL - hardware not software like ATI

They're on sale right now for $179.99.

Nice card, but overkill for MAME. Should be nice with D3D games though!

Overkill for just Mame, yes, but I have other stuff on the PC that will benefit from a higher-end graphics card such as a Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-S DVB card and I want to be able to connect my PC to my new 55" LCD HD TV. I've been looking forward to playing Mame and PC Games on my big screen TV. I'm really looking forward to playing Devil May Cry 4 - PC on my big screen TV with DirectX 10. So it's not really just for Mame but Mame will definitly be pretty cool with that video card.

Update--> It's done! New video card ordered. Bye, Bye crappy ATI video card.
