Thats strange I thought that was fixed in 4.95.

Can you unintstall, delete the program files\gameex directory.

And then go ahead and install 4.96, just uploaded.

Thanks.

I un-installed, deleted the gameex directory, downloaded 4.96, and installed it. I still get the same error.

My system: P4 2.4G Hz(Dell 400SC) 2x500 M RAM, ATI 9800 PRO AIW, Win XP Pro (not MCE), BTV is running, I have the ATI Remote installed.

The error occurs when the donate screen seems to be ending, I hear a few notes of the music (2-4 notes) and then I get the error. My audio is onboard audio.

I disabled audio in the Audio menu of the GameEx configuration and I still get the same exception.

Example log of when audio is disabled (last few items):

09:02:11.8 8/31/2005: Cannot Load Play List. Check Path and filename

09:02:11.8 8/31/2005: Sound Disabled

OK, to find this little bugger.

Do this:

Go into GameEx.ini in the config dir. Search for Windowed

Change Windowed=False to Windowed= True

Replace GameEx.exe with the one attached.

Run it

Let me know what happens, and post the error. If theres a detail button when the error shows, click it and tell me what the text says.

Thanks.

I get a CLR Runtime Debugging Services Dialog:

Title: GameEx.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Body of the dialog:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id =0xe68 (3688), Thread id=0xad4 (2772).

Click OK to terminate the application.

Click CANCEL to debug the application.

Two buttons: OK and Cancel

No details button. I do not have the CLR JIT installed so I could not debug the exception.

Could you try replacing the file in the gameex directory with the ones in the attached zip.

In addition, are you using a non english version of Windows or similar?

The same error resulted from both sets of dlls.

I am running a legal copy of Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Language: English (Regional Setting: English). I have DirectX 9.0c 4.09.0000.0904. I am running an Intel Pentium 4 CPU at 2.40 G Hz (With HT turned on) with 1022 MB ram (as reported by DXDiag.exe, I really have 2x512 MB)

I am running my video settings at 1600x1200 32bit, 60Hz for a Dell LCD.

Looking at the Administrattive Tools for WinXP, I have two sets of .NET icons, one set for .NET Frameword 1.1 and one set for .NET Frameword 2.0. I dont recall installing .NET Framework 2.0.

OK, it could be the 2.0. Other thing is to try running at a lower resolution to see if that helps, at lest just for the moment.

Lowering the resolution didn't help. Regarding 2.0. All my .NET 1.1 applications still work, I am not 100% convinced it is that. I am not going to be able to test any more today so dont sweat it. I appreciate you working with me to get this working. I am really excited for what GameEx has to offer.

Good news. I got it to work. The offending setting was Display Settings -> Background Mode. It was set to "Display Background Images", when I changed it to "Display Black Background" the crash went away.

But...When I attempted to view a slideshow I get:

09:23:56.1 9/1/2005: Testing Main Loop Once: Main Loop ran successfully

09:24:28.2 9/1/2005: 20 Consecutive Exceptions Occured: Exiting

09:24:28.2 9/1/2005: at Microsoft.DirectX.DirectDraw.Surface.Draw(Rectangle destRectangle, Surface sourceSurface, Rectangle srcRectangle, DrawFlags flags, DrawEffects bltEffects)

09:24:28.2 9/1/2005: at GameEx.GameEx.mainform.DisplayFrame()

Which is odd because it is trying to display an image again, not dissimilar from the Background Mode setting. Any thoughts?

Hi random,

I had this error last time i configured gameEX. I think you should change in the configuration menu the resolution display. I could not explain or tell precisely how i fix it

i changed the skin resolution display AND set in the display settings : "Don't switch resolution : set resolution to below"

from my part it will crash if i set "don't change"

I think Im getting closer to the problem. Please replace GameEx.exe with the one attached, and post the log. It is a debug version with a lot of logging.

Also try this one, I think it might give us the exact error description at startup

Good news. The last exe that you sent works! I can use GameEx now. Wow! What an amazing application! I am very impressed.

When I start GameEx.exe first an Alert-Dialog-like box appears with the text: 1 and an Ok button. When I click the Ok Button, another similar dialog appears with no text, and just an Ok Button. I click ok, and GameEx.exe launches and all the backgrounds show, and all the functionality seems to work.

A tiny bug: in my version, the capital "W" texture has too many pixels from the master texture so part of the X comes through. It looks like it is off by about 3-4 pixels.

What changed in this last exe?

Not really too sure what changed.

Here is version 5.00 of GameEx.exe without all the slow down caused by the debuging. Please try it, and if it's OK, ill upload a new install to the Web Site.

Thanks,

Tom

What screen are you in when when the W shows incorrectly? What's the full text?

The new exe has the same issues as the original exes. I have reverted back to the debug exe that works for me. I have been using GameEx a lot now that it works for me. I have tested MAME, Sega CD, SNes, pictures, jukebox, weather, and news. It all seems to work.

The W with the X in it was from the "update list" progress dialog.

I am currently having an issue where Project 64 wont update the screen with running fullscreen. I start Mario Kart 64, and I get the audio with a black screen. When I run windowed, Project 64 opens windowed, and seems to work great. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Nevermind the Project 64 issue. I resolved that by following instructions that I found when using the Search feature of this forum. My bad.

Regardless, the only GameEx.exe that works for me is the debug version mentioned above. Any thoughts on why that is?

Sorry, I don't have a clue at the moment. I expect the debug version is pretty unusable though, due to being so slow.
