Sweet! Thanks Flash! You may have to help me on some of the characters though. I think the second one is Starglider is that right?

yes it is. The others are

VCS (and others) - H.E.R.O.

Jaguar - Tempest 2000 beast

Dreamcast - U la la from Space Channel 5

C64 - Uridium Space Ship

VCS - Bug from Yar's Revenge

Saturn - Clockwork Knight, err Knight.

LYNX - Chip from Chips Challenge.

Hope that helps...

Really HK, being a retro man yourself - I really thought you would know all them, dearly me - now! go and sit at the back of the class...

Okay I've added a download for the theme to the first post if you want to check it out.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll have a whole lot of time to work on this theme anymore. But people are welcome to take it and expand on it. It didn't turn out as good as I hoped it would. The foreground images I use don't always look that nice when the background is color keyed out; perhaps I should have just used background images instead.

Anyway you will probably look at the theme and think what is different? You need to have emulators set up to see the overlays. They match the names used in the default emulator profiles included with GameEx. But this is just the default GameEx theme with some graphics overlayed for some emulators.

I've called the theme HyperStyle for obvious reasons, I did make all the graphics by hand but some of the layouts are inspired by some of BadBoyBill's designs so I hope he doesn't mind.

Overall though it's not that great and I'm certainly no billpa but maybe someone can make it better. Maybe one day I'll change it to use background images instead of foreground. But I thought people could use the foreground images with their own backgrounds if they wanted to.

Hi HeadKaze,

Could you tell me what I am doing wrong. This is the first time I have tried a V4 theme and I dont seem to be having much luck.

I have selected this theme in the theme picker. I have also added the name of each emulator foreground to each of my emulatator configs in the custom background line but I only get a blue screen background when I select an emulator to view. Have I missed a step anywhere.

Thanks

J.

I have opened it in theme editor. It dosent show any of the emulator backgrounds though just a grey checker board background?

I am using theme editor 2.1.

The hardest thing about setting this theme up is matching the backgrounds with the emulators setup. I did have them matching all the new default profile names, but if you've changed them you will have to either change the "Title Text" or the media files in the theme.

Take a look at the attached image and make sure the images match up.

O.K. I will do some renaming because I have changed the names.

Which image do I then point it at foreground or background?

Do I have the right idea here:

For example I have changed Atari 2600 to read 2600 Games,

So the files should read . Theme_Background_2600 Games.png

Theme_Background_2600 Games_Foreground.png

Then when they are renamed go into the config wizard and point each emulator at one of the images.

Is that what you mean?

All you need to do is rename them like you've done. I don't think you need to point each emulator to one of the images, as that is automatic based on name. You may need to leave the "Custom Background" blank, as all mine are blank and it works without it.

BTW I have updated the first post showing all the different overlays.

O.K. I have started renaming. Now they images show up correctly in Theme editor but not in Gameex. Am I missing some other config.

I am using the latest version of GameEx also.

I am still having problems getting this one to display. All of the emulators I have renamed now show properly in the Theme Editor. But still nothing when GameEx is launched.

The theme is selected and the custom background option is blank.

I am at a loss as to why this isnt working. Does it matter if I have some of the GameEx buttons are switched off. e.g. I dont have the media bar at the top of the screen displayed. I also dont have the home and exit buttons displayed either. Could this be stopping it from working.

Any ideas?

J.

P.S. Is there an option to switch off the 'change view, back, home and exit' tabs that appear on this new theme. I wish to keep all the other info like manufacturer, year e.t.c.

I am unable to post a log at the moment (The arcade p.c. isnt online a.t.m.). I have done a fresh install of GameEx in a different part of the P.C. and now the images are displayed.

I do have another problem though.

The snaps and videos are showing underneath the themes. Is this normal behaviour or do I need to change another option.

Thanks

Your kidding me? I never got a chance to check the theme with snaps/videos and I had no idea they appeared beneath the foreground. I don't know mate, it looks like this theme was a waste of my time then unless I remake the whole thing using only backgrounds.

I have found a workaround for this. GameEx allows you to set the background as blue in the config. Do this then remove all the blue background .pngs.

Then remove the word' foreground' from all the them .pngs . Then they are displayed as backgrounds behind the snaps.

I got these to display as backround but isn't the whole point in this to have these lay over the videos or incase the videos? Look at post #3 in this thread, is that how it looks?

Post #3 was a mockup I made. It would have been fine but I don't have all the videos and snaps setup on my dev machine, so I never could test them. The problem was when I decided to add pictures of the consoles. What I should really do is put the console in the background, and have the video in front of it. I might spend some time remaking this theme properly that way.

I think this theme looks good and it would be worth the extra effort IMO.

Beautiful backgrounds, Headkaze. Unfortunately the link for the zip of all of them is dead. Any chance of putting them up again?
