Please forgive my sophmoronic knowledgebase, but I have these questions:

What is a cavlist and is it good to have for Mame32 like it's websight suggests?

Does anyone else have the problem that CPSketchr never loads (seriously, I've watched it eat up 50% of both cpu's and never initialize, and by never meaning forever)

What abut the 7th button that I've built into my control panel tat no game sees to use? what does anyone do with it?

Catlist (not cavlist) is used to provide a list of categories in MAME32. If you want categories in GameEx, you need to get catver instead/in addition. Catver is in a different format and includes the information for when a game was introduced into MAME. And yes, you definitely need this file if you plan on searching for games by categories instead of just by name.

What is CPSketcher?

You probably need to adjust your button config in MAME in order to use the CP the way you want. When in MAME, press 'TAB' and select the first item (default controls) and adjust the controls as desired. If you find a game that doesn't work well with the default controls, you can use the second item (game specific controls) to override the default ones.
