Brand new install of MCE 2005 everything else works perfect! I can run gameex fine if the media center is not loaded but if its loaded (weather i launch from mce or not) gameex loads the nag then the screen goes black, then i see my desk top then black again, then finally it brings me to the MCE screen even if it was minimized at the time I ran GameEX....

This really sucks! I want to use this extension!

I just got 4.95 (i believe) and the same behavior is occuring...

I uninstalled the old version first and rebooted before re-installing the new version...

If I can get this working i will definately be donating cause I plan on using this a lot.

Run the Config app. Go to Tweaks/Performance. Check that

"Media Center Exit/Start" mode is set to "Close and Restart (Recommended)"

Right now it looks like it thinks Media Center has been invoked, so it is killing GameEx and restarting Media Center. I'm assuming you're running GameEx from within Media Center.

All else fails you can change the second option

"Exit GameEx if MCE loaded" to No. That will prevent it from shutting down due to the presence of MCE. I'd recommend not changing this though, as your system will get in a really fouled up state when you press the green button while gameex is running.

hmm checked it out. I do have it set on close and restart and id rather not do the 2nd option... hmm what if i put the first option to puase and resume?

Posted

How are you launching GameEx? If it's set to "Close and Restart", Media Center (ehshell.exe) should not be running when GameEx is running. Somehow it's still running, which is what we need to figure out.

I am trying to launch from MCE but even if i just minimize MCE and run it, it bails... if media center is closed and i do it from the start menu, it works perfectly...

Please overwriste GameEx.exe (c:/program files/gameex/gameex.exe) with the one in the attached zip file.

See if thats any better. Make sure you do overwrite the file though, and dont extract it somewhere else.

Thanks,

Tom

Ok I tried that and still crashes... the fact that I am using dual displays... does that have anything to do with it?

In your original log you have MediaCenter mode as 0. Change this to the recommended option. This problem is purely your configuration.

The setting is under Tweaks/Performance. Sorry I did not spot that earlier.

You should be laughing now.

He says he's tried two different options (1 and 2) and still has the problem.

You might try editing GameEx.ini directly and looking for the MediaCenterMode line and making sure it's set to 2.

MediaCenterMode=2

I think he deffinitly needs to double check Rob, if I set it to 0 it does exactly what he is describing.
